Marines to replace Humvees in Iraq

<Last month, The Sun reported that despite the increasing number of soldiers and Marines being killed in Humvees, the 21,500 additional troops ordered to Iraq by President Bush would not have access to MRAP vehicles because they are in such short supply.>
In WWII our military switched out the Wildcat fighter aircraft for the superior Hellcat fighter bomber because the Wildcat was no match for the Japanese Zeros. The Hellcat went from drawing board to deployment in action in nine months, and changed the momentum of the war in the pacific. Where is our Commander and Chief. Where are our leaders. We've been in Iraq for 4 years now and still good men are dying every day because of the ineptitude of our leaders to lead. |

In past wars the govt' would commandere an Auto Manufacturing plant and say look your not producing Cars anymore your making Tanks. Remember We are at War so where is all of the support like those stickers we see. Chrysler is closing a Plant and laying off thousands so why can't it be converted to produce MRAPs.

You obviously has no knowledge of what it takes to produce a product. Setting up an assembly line takes weeks if not months to put together. A product contains many components and parts. Those parts are supplied by other manufacturers. These vehicles have sophisticated components. When desert storm was planned, the government procured quite a few wide bandwidth spectrum analyzers from HP destined for private use. These test equipment were already bought and paid for by customers but were rerouted for military use. |

I believe the problem was Rumsfeld. He was Bush's Secretary of Defense for 6 years, 6 years too long. |
So what . I work for one of the largest manufacturing cos. left in Fla and I konw what it takes to produce a product. If this chickensht country would pull together it would be easy. instead its easier to put a stupid sticker on your car like you really care and go read about Anna. Nobody REALLY cares. How come the maker of the Bullet proof vests won't dislose his patent so someone else can help make more for our troops.Lotsa support there HUH?. And the knucklehads with the stickers are not writing any letters there congressmenn and Bush is too sucked up to the Big money to try to tell them what to do. Pull em all now for lack of SUPPORT. |

Can you define lead time? How long is a lead time? |

If that's what you think of America why are you here making more money than back "home"? You don't have to stay. |
Don't get me wrong here, I am for any device that would help our troops' survivability in any war. My comment is specifically on manufacturing and from a business standpoint. Lets say Chrysler agreed to do this, who will do the job? Their unionize workers? Who will buy the assembly line equipment? How many units will the government buy? The government doesn't have to buy all they promised they would. Will Chrysler make money on this? Remember Shareholders' values. So let's say its just a one year contract, what would they do with the employees after? |
