The Rev. looks to Franklin as the virtuous model for governance:

"The truth lies in what Benjamin Franklin said,‘Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom.’”

It's fairly certain that by "virtuous" Franklin did not mean trying to force religion dogma on others.

After all, Ben Franklin fornicated with literally many dozens of women, on several continents. He was particularly fond of French women.

His sexual affairs had absolutely no hindrance on him being one of the most excellent statesmen ever, if anything they enhanced his drive to accomplish many worthy state objectives.

Franklin's philandering was well know at the time and yet he was highly respected as a great leader in national and international politics, and as a businessman, and inventor.

Without Franklins shrew diplomatic skills in negotiating a peace treaty that drew help from France the colonies would not have had means to subsist and this nation would not have evolved.

The Rev. will be just fine as long as he sticks with preaching and stays out of secular politics and elective office.
