You know I just cannot get all choked up about seeing another downtown bank or insurance company spring up like clover in my flower beds. What Orlando needs are jobs, retail outlets downtown, companies that "make things" and "hire people to make things", people selling things people need. We don't need more pointy shoe, striped pants bank Presidents and Vice presidents, lawyers, accountants etc. etc. We need Mom and Pop businesses, small factories, big factories, car plants, furniture plants, steel plants,- the stuff that provided the money that puts money into banks. We can't even get a damned downtown hardware store. The central corridor is a vacuum for busisneses. I so non-touched that a bunch of money lenders gathered downtown. Too bad that they aren't announcing sometehing that will put a lot of unemployed people to work building things people want and need here. We don't need more bars, more banks, more insureance companies. We need producers, entrompenours, inventers, craftsmen, technicians, engineers, and something for them all to be making and providing new money for this area - not just lending it out and collecting interest. When I look downtown I one time would like to see one tall building owned and occupied by a real private company with a sign on top that says "Acme Widget Company" or "Diamond YO YO" or something besides "such and such bank". Is this too much to wish for ?

Is this too much to wish for ? Personally...I'd love to ad a few more jobs. But I'm white...and my businesses need capital for expansion...and I'm not given loans. So I'll just have to wait till the profits from what I'm doing can subsidize my own growth. Now...I've got this half-hispanic, half-Cherokee handicapped female friend of mine..... Shame she doesn't have any ideas or a business to expand. Because she'd be given loans out the wazoo for doing something. But now that I think about it....I'm considered one of those 'evil rich' guys...... I'm the one who gets taxed the most, TOLD what I MUST pay my employees, and regulated like crazy. Nah. I think I'll just do some more one-man-band kinda ideas. That way...I only have to pay myself.

Downtown is a beautiful area with expensive condos, apts., and if I had the money to live there I certainly would and wouldn't mind driving out of my way to the local hardware store instead of it being next door to my condo.

sorry thats just a very 1970's mentality. We as a country have a very evolved economy. we dont need to "make" things to survive and prosper. A company like best buy makes more money selling TV's then they ever could making them. This is the way of the future and if you had a young child would you tell them to get a job making things or a job in finance, IT, law etc?
