I can't believe that "Tom Loehner is backing an amendment to the state constitution that would forbid voter-enacted laws governing how farmers raise cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry, goats, horses and rabbits". Once again a lawmaker making sure that MO voters can't have a say in things in MO even if they vote....Amazing how little your vote can count in a state .... May as well live in a dictatorship. Isn't he the same guy that wants to start processing horsemeat for human consumption again?

You don't favor a representative form of government?

They say they are there to "represent" the people, and then when they arrive in office do not want to hear from the people they represent. Hippocrits all ... Are you related to him or something?

What business is it of yours or mine "how farmers raise cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry, goats, horses and rabbits"?
So long as they aren't violating animal cruelty laws, it's none of our damn business. We have too much government as it is. We sure as hell don't need people who have zero interest in such things telling those who have invested all they have how to run their own businesses.
If you want to have a say in how livestock farmers run their businesses, then invest enough of YOUR OWN MONEY in one of them so that you'll have a voice on the board of directors. Short of that, keep your nose out of it.

If there are already animal cruelty laws on the books, why do we need more laws? Let's just enforce the ones we've got and stop trying to have government micromanage livestock farmers.

The penalties apparently need to be worse - and enforcement isn't adequate. The puppy mill laws applied to only puppy mills - not livestock. If you READ, you'd know this. But apparently you hate animals and most likely people too.... guest wrote: If there are already animal cruelty laws on the books, why do we need more laws? Lack of encforcement won't be remedied by putting redundant laws on the books. But apparently you hate animals and most likely people too. No, I hate oppressive, unconstitutional government. The fact is that we have strong animal cruelty laws on the books. If livestock farmers violate those laws, they should be punished. What I see here is a loud minority who haven't a clue about raising livestock trying to use the power of government to micromanage an industry with a myriad of useless laws and regulations that will only drive up the cost. My best advice to you is to MYOB.

p.s.- take a look at the maximum punishments for your "felony" animal cruelty laws. It's a joke. Maybe we could be cruel to you & test the punishments. Then you could tell us if you feel they are adequate. How about that? guest wrote: <quoted text> Animal cruelty is already a felony. That's hardly a slap on the wrist, and I'm sure sitting in the state pen for 4 years is no joke. Like I said before, we have no need for redundant laws. Let's just enforce the ones we've already got.
