Work has started on a new off-road cycle path in South Gloucestershire. Funded by the Cycling City project, the new route will cover about four miles between Yate and Mangotsfield via Westerleigh.
Great news. I hope that it gets built soon, because this route would be very useful for me as I live in Somerset and work in Yate and I would love to break up my journey into part drive and part cycle - Park and Pedal, if you like.
However, past experience shows that these cycle route projects take a long time to take off due to the British tendency to be somewhat dismissive of the great advantages of encouraging more people to use a bike for some of their journeys.
