The crash was the fault of our government and their lack of regulation.

Fred made one mistake, not doing proper due dilligence on ABN amro. Obviously this was one of the biggest mistakes in banking history but it was still a single mistake.

Compare this to our politicians. They fuck up all the time. It was them who were truly responsible for the crash, it's just that they're slimy enough to try and force all the blame onto bankers.

Not only that but some of them are proper criminals too. Why is it lord Archer still has a peerage?

Too true. Archer (an ex-category D prisoner and criminal) was only given a peerage because it suited Labour politically.

He should be stripped of his peerage and he is worse than Goodwin.

I think Goowin's pal J Stewarts comments completely miss the point....

Former Formula One racing champion, Sir Jackie Stewart, who is a friend of Mr Goodwin, said the removal of the knighthood has set a "very dangerous precedent."

Whether Goodwin committed a crime or not isn't any more relevant than the actions of Gordon Brown in selling the Gold off for for a fraction of what it is now worth.

Mr Salmond's comments were more sensible...

"Firstly, in terms of consistency, it raises the question of why members of the House of Lords convicted of serious criminal offences should still be able to sit as legislators in the second chamber.

"And second, this welcome decision must also lead to a wider UK Government policy response to impose much-needed restraint over pay and bonuses on financial institutions within the public sector."
Unquote (Huffington Post).

The public expect people with such high honours (and the power and money they sometime bring) to maintain reasonable standards of behaviour. The question of whether they are seriously criminal or not shouldn't even arise.

Criminal conviction should automatically and permanently rule out knighthoods and lordships. It demands their immediate withdrawal, which should be automatic in future.

the Tories made him a peer. he lost his seat as an MP for going bankrupt. Mrs Thatcher thought the world of him. Another of her huge mistakes!

It is very good to see Mr Goodwin stripped of his titlement. He makes an excellent scape goat from the pathetic petty hoohar over the RBS bankers' bonuses.
Plus he has that dreadful Scottish accent, that is far from being a kind, posh, and upperclass gentlemen.

The current underpaid RBS executives must get on with the job of removing all the good parts of the RBS business so it can be sold extremely cheaply to kind gentlemen of similar kind to the executives, and under the nod and approval of the Chancellor George Osborne, who im sure is receiving a nice cash donation. The rest of the RBS business must be left with the taxpayer ie £45 billion of toxic debt. Similar to what happened to Northern Rock.

Lol! Sorry I started writing about Mandelson and then thought Archer was arguably a worse case. I ended up posting something with my wires crossed. Sorry.(I think I need to put this glass down and turn in!:-)

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Sagittarius

You're feeling ultra optimistic today, which is great for summoning up the necessary energy to do what has to be done. But don't let it go to your head and convince you that you're capable of performing miracles. If you aren't behaving in this way you'll have to cope with someone who has a swollen head and thinks they're the cat's whiskers.
