Spoken like a true believer who shuts out everything that isn't spoon fed to him or her. Just because you watch a movie doesn't mean you're going to renounce your faith. Unless of course you became a follower of God under such a pretense *snicker* which is prolly true. Is that what happened, went to watch the passion and you became christian? why is it so hard to accept the fact that this is a movie, if your faith was not so weak you wouldn't feel the need into covering that weakness with forcing your ideas on other people. Just because you rattle off some scripture doesn't make you a saint you know, besides that script could be interpreted another way too, try this on for size... If your view is a closed one, full of ignorance, your body will be a void where the light of wisdom and knowledge does not exist. For one cannot be capable of accepting love and the goodness of the holy spirit if one does not know hate and evil. Oooh ya, scripture burn. Just to let you know, you missed the crusades by a couple hundred years.

Don't know about all of the religious fanatics out there, but i'm going to the showing of it tonight and I'll love every minute of it knowing that if your self rightous butts were there your eyes would be bleeding. Pray for me my slightly more diluted christian brothers and sisters! I go to the brink of hell! YES, thats right, I'm going to the THEATER!~ bumbumbum ~ Should I not return approximately 1 hour and 53 minutes, send gaurdian angel in after me! Curse my open mindiness, for it shall be the death of my soul! To think that God may actually want me to not scowl at everything that my low earthly mind perceives as satanic, what a fool I am!

OMG IT'S JUST A MOVIE FOR INTERTAMENT! LOL, IF THE RELEGISH PEOPLE WANT TO BE UP IN ARMS THEY SHOULD DO IT TO WEAR IT GETS HELP FOR PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY AND NOT BICKER OVER A MOVIE HOW THEY THINK IT'S SO HORRABLE AND SENDS A WRONG MESSAGE OUT. WHEN THE EXORCIST CAME OUT IN THE EARLY 70'S THEY FREAKED OUT AND TRIED TO HAVE IT BOYCOT, AND IT ONLY MADE PEOPLE FLOCK TO IT FASTER TO SEE WHAT IT WAS ALL ABOUT. COME ON PREIST,PASTORS,ECT ECT. CONTIUN TO TEACH THE WORD BUT LEAVE THE MOVIES FOR PEOPLE TO DECIDE TO SEE IT OR NOT. REMEMBER IT'S JUST MAKE BELIEVE.

If Harry Potter or these "anti-Narnia" books can threaten the beliefs you instill in your children daily, perhaps it is the parenting that should come into question.

Sometimes I wish I would proven wrong and the Second Coming would occur and whisk all the nutjob extremist Christians away. Buh Bye!

The only problem I have with this movie is it's apparent hidden adgenda to propagate athiesim. The difference between this and Harry Potter is that JK Rowling never had a hidden purpose in the books. Harry is what Harry is. The book series by Pullman are much more devious in perpetuating the ideas that God can be killed and the Catholic church is corrupt. I will see this movie knowing what it is and what it represents, I would recommend parents screening it first to see if you want your child to view it based on content, and then talk to them about it.
Is the thought of an atheist scary to you? If Bush said, instead of a terrorsit around every corner that there's an atheist around every corner, would you hide in fear? Or would you rise to the occassion, grab your Holy Sword (Bible) and dress in your holy armour? Atheist...Atheist...ATHEIST! Makes you want to run crying & cringing in fear doesn't? To most Christians, it seems Atheist are more reviled than child sex offenders. Perhaps it's because atheist (generally) have a level of logic and reasoning that leaves most Jesus Beaters dumbfounded and awe struck. Reason & logic, after all, are mighty dangerous to the Christian faith. Best beat them down with a stick and burn them. Pesky buggers, Reason & Logic, shady fellows, if you ask me! Bury them along with those anti-Narnia books!

Scary, you new wave of uber Christians are mindles, scary, SHEEPLE.

I'd complain about Christian upset over the Golden Compass as being pathetic, petty and insecure, all of which it of course is, but I'm willing to anyway hold back my verbal judgment temporarily; anyone who complains about this film as 'brainwashing children' speaks for their religious denomination in proving that they haven't much of a leg to stand on, especially if cgi polar bears can get to them so easily.
It also exposes the true colors of the atheists; the cool ones. The ones who aren't going to freak out because some church sign we drove by supports Christian belief.

Lol, Amazing. Ok, it is fine for christians to have in your face movies, signs, holidays, church on every corner, etc. ooh boy an atheist fantasy movie. Christians (some) are afraid the kids may see the movie and it will instill atheist "nonvalues" on their precious little angels. Christians sure do not care if the atheist kids are FORCED very often to be subjected to an ancient text and its bs fantasy tales.

See the thing is, atheist have enough logic to not be influenced by christian fantasy forced on them, but weak minded christians are scared because their kids are already detached of reality and may buy into a fantasy movie written by an atheist. Biggest hypocrites ever.

Nice post, your use of sarcasim is...impressive. I have never claimed in any of my post to be a Christian. That's an assumption on your part. I am at best an agnostic. I don't like the fact that the Golden Compass is dressing itself up to be something it's not. If you want to be an anti-God movie, go ahead and go balls to the wall. Don't try to sell your beliefs and pass them off in pretty packaging with movie tie in's. If anything Pullman should have found a director willing to make this movie into the athiest story he wrote- present it for what it is!

Come on...if a movie can generate this much discussion, then thats great, at least its interesting I dont get your problem with it, I have read your comments..read the books and seen the movie, you sound intellegent enough. Pullman is as you probably know a really excellent storywriter, the trilogy is an imaginative and rather brilliant set of books IMO, surely Christian children will not be damaged by this film??...I just cant see it, most kids wont even see beyond a great action fantasy movie...I loved it (as did my kids)

To the Fanatics: Sheesh. If you can't distinguish between fantasy and real life, that's your problem. Please don't mess it up for those of us who can, and enjoyed the movie and film, as for kids, how dumb do you think they are? They are perfectly capable of telling fact from fiction. I can think of a dozen more harmful films (read saw, texas chainsaw massacre, ect.) that could cause way more harm. There are some very good messages (friendship, truth, loyalty.) in the golden compass that you will discover if you don't run out sceaming during the first five minutes of the film and spend the rest of your day ranting about pagans.
hmph. sorry 'bout that, went off on a rant there.
Anyway, all i wanted to say was try and have faith in the rest of us for a change. You may be surprised.

Cameragirl, good for you. Nice job actually getting to know something about a topic.

I have read the entire "His Dark Materials" trilogy twice now. The basis of the books is that there is no such thing as a sentien "God". The creature that calls itself "God" is, in fact, an imposter, and by the second book, several characters have set out to kill it. It also states that Eve's "fall" in the Bible was not a sin at all, but an act of salvation, and must once again occur.uppose I can understand it, but I myself am Wiccan, and you don't really see Wiccan's getting upset about the myriad of negative media against us, do you? It seems to me that if your faith in your god or gods was truly unshakeable, it should matter what some random author says, should it? Perhaps the real problem is that Pullman has raised questions that make people uncomfortable, because there are no answers for them.
