Can't see what the fuss is about really. Homosexual or heterosexual, it makes no difference. We're just people. Being straight is morally neutral, and so is being gay. Anyone who thinks otherwise just needs to grow up.

And that is simply the opinion of one uneducated bigot, and has little basis in reality. Anyone who wants to systematically marginalize his fellow citizens for an innate trait that has NO affect on HIS life has some unresolved issues.

Quest, I don't need help.I have strong views, just as you do in the other direction. It is not about marginalizing people, it is about a radical social and political movement to force those of us opposed to this lifestyle to accept it, and we will not. The trait we are talking about is not innate, it is a choice. And it does have an affect on our lives, especially if the schools want to offer it in their curriculum as normal, even if it is not agreeable with the religious beliefs of many of our citizens.

The LA Roman Catholic diocese settles for $660M. San Diego for $200M. Was it George Santayana who said "Those who will not learn from history are doomed to repeat it". Wait 25 years and we Episcopalians will be in the same mess. Only the lawyers will benefit.

This is rather stating the obvious, but in human nature there is a tendency to be sexually attracted to the opposite sex and repelled (in a sexual context) by your own sex. This makes sense in evolutionary terms - It is behaviour which encourages sexual reproduction and thereby the propogation of the genes which make us feel this way. Of course, the existence of homosexuality is also explicable in evolutionary terms, since there are many other species with significant proportions of non-breeding individuals, and this is clearly a survival advantage.

Religions, not surprisingly, often have scripture which reflects the innate distaste or discomfort which humans often feel regarding homosexual sex, and their followers claim that admonitions against homosexual sex come from their deity, whereas in fact of course they come from the humans who write them. Nevertheless, the idea that homosexuality is condemned by their god is a potent one, and it's easy for theists to just say "It's wrong because God says so".

Nowadays, moral progress is such that more and more people are regarding homosexuality as morally neutral - i.e. neither good nor bad, but merely different, and this is of course a good thing. It's clearly immoral to try to dictate to other consenting adults who they can and cannot have a relationship with. The whole idea is not only wrong, it's downright stupid. If someone told me that I can't be with person X because they're the wrong gender / colour / age / culture / whatever, I would just laugh and tell them to naff off, and that's what homosexuals should do. It's wrong to discriminate against gay people. Moreover, it's *grossly* immoral to make assertions on the basis of unsupported claims - e.g. to claim that a deity exists, and what his opinion is on the matter, and thus decide what people will or will not be allowed to do, without even being able to demonstrate the *existence* of such a deity, far less what his opinion might be on any matter at all if he existed. Religions are by their nature amoral and can never form the basis of morality. To be a truly moral person you really need to be an atheist.

All this is yet more evidence, if any were needed, that we cannot have a decent civilised society until religion is kept out of civil affairs.

As for choice, well it seems absurd to claim that sexual orientation is a choice - I know for certain that I couldn't choose to stop finding women sexually attractive and start finding men sexually attractive instead. It's just never going to happen, so as far as I can see the idea that someone could choose to do so is a complete nonsense. Perhaps those here who like to claim that they could choose to turn gay, might like to explain how they think they would go about it. Maybe there are certain mental exercises you can do to try to turn yourself gay, but it seems unlikely to me. Perhaps those who are sure it can be done have actually tried it, and can share their experiences with the rest of us.

As I said before: People who have a problem with homosexuality just need to grow up. Many won't, but hopefully their children will.
