What is a king cobra doing in a PET SHOP?
Were they waiting for the right family to adapt him?
Was he waiting to be put on Paddington train to London?
Is there an empty grass basket somewhere in Bristol?

I want a King Cobra. De-venomized and de-fanged of course. I wonder how much that would cost...

Lorenzo that would not be possible. The King Cobra, as with any fanged snake, can just keep growing fangs and will alway have venom. What you want will turn out to be a King Cobra belt. Why? Because you will have to dehead the King Corba. Thus making a belt is the only thing that you can do with it. Well, if you are small around the waist I suppose you would have enough to make a nice wallet to.

The problem with a pet like that is you do take it to the vet for it's shots.......you are the one that goes for the shots.

You see this is anther Exotic that pet shops have no business having or selling,Like many other exotic's that they sale to people that want exotic's but have no clue how to care for them. When they get them home the poor animal dies or they just ignore the animal because they do not know how to deal with it. When it was cute at the store it was okay but when they got it home it was not cute because it bite you, or it did not snuggle with you, GOSH maybe because it is a snake,rat, lizard, bird, frog, or a spider these types of aniamls do not snuggle.

You can have the venom glands removed- in addition to the 1200 or so for the snake, perhaps 800 bucks for the glands to be yanked. The fangs stay, but king cobras have short fangs anyway, 1/4 in a 10 footer. Devenomized snakes usually do not live long or well. In addition, king cobras eat other snakes, which gets expensive. Sometimes they can be switched to scented rats. They eat daily or every other day, require large cages and produce vast quantities of liquidy feces daily. State and local laws apply. Nothing wrong with keeping them for people who have the knowledge, but not for everyone. I bred them for zoos and research for twenty years- the most intelligent and responsive snakes I know of. Keep in mind way more people are killed in direct attacks by deer family animals than venomous snakes in the US.

I'm a snake lover, have had pet snakes most my life. But even this takes the cake. Exotics are hard to handle and care for! Give me a friendly red rat or a garter snake any day. At least the ones we had slept with the kids.

Of course, the story can't be displayed, so we really don't know if this was a "pet shop" or an exotic animal dealer that supplies animals for animal parks, breeders, and licensed collectors, which is quite a ways from a pet store.I don't think a pet store in the UK could get a king cobra. Nor would a licensed dealer sell it to anyone without the proper credentials to own it. I'd like to read the story, media understanding of anything being what it is, and tried a search but couldn't find it. Surviving king cobra bite is rare, the antiserum being costly and hard to get.

How would you like it if someone ripped out your teeth and nails and were to throw you into a cage.oh and how would you feed your fangless, devenomized King Cobra?Are you going to envenomate all of his prey items.Defanging and declawing a snake is 10 times worse than declawing a cat,which is evil.

by the way, a captive animal does not attack a person working with it. it defends itself. the worker is the aggressor

I have read about this previously. As I understand it, the person was struck when they were attempting to hand feed the Cobra. While they weren't necessarily the aggressor, they were highly unintelligent. Hand feeding a highly venemous snake is really dumb, why not just strip down and wrestle it. i found some articles about this for your reading pleasure..."http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/article... ;, "http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/arti... ;, "http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/50... ;

anytime you invade the flight space or individual distance of an inadequately caged animal, you are the agressor. this was a defense, not an attack.
