A FURIOUS Belper man has vowed to carry on the fight to stop controversial mobile phone masts being installed in the town - even though they have planning permission to go ahead.

This phone mast and others like it should NOT be given the go-ahead without a full consultation with residents in the area affected. There should be more transparency to the placing of these masts long before we read in the locaL press that they have been given approval. How many others are being put up in similar circumstances throughout Derbyshire and Staffordshire at this moment in time? O2 and Vopdafone are cutting a swathe through Britain and nobody is stopping them, despite the fact that almost all people affected do not want them. Are the phone companies like the supermarkets before them using enticements of money and improvements to the local area to persuade cash strapped councils to turn a blind eye to commonsense decisions? You only have to go to www.cannockchasedc.gov.uk to see the exact same scenario with a 45ft mobile phone mast in Heath Hayes being given the go ahead, this is also being sited in a park used by children.
