Man told he is too old for college course

I feel for this poor man. myself and my friend got into norwich city college on the hairdressing course we both had a place we were waiting to be told when to inroll we waited and waited four weeks went bye we called, we emailed, had no reply we decided to go to the college it was inrolling day only to be told that they had oversubscribed and we did not have a place we also feel let down we are aged 52 and 53.is this ageism?
