3. Military . a person who enters the service voluntarily rather than through conscription or draft, esp. for special or temporary service rather than as a member of the regular or permanent army.

I'd guess the military expects to be paid. Cheers!

one volunteers for the service , is part of the regular military , it means that you have met an obligation , Obligation with out being conscripted geeeeeeese
but one can not be made to ring a bell for the Salvation Army , one ...VOLUNTEERS
