Excellent idea . Ukraine is well positioned to warn the world about the dangers of nuclear proliferation and to emphasisize the importance safe nuclear energy methods and technology. Just as Ukraine keeps the Holodomor issue alive as a remembrance for the world to avoid government tyranny, Chernobyl will be an eternal reminder for everyone about the dangers associated with nuclear energy and even nuclear warfare. It is Ukraine's destiny it seems , to be an early warning to the world about these issues. also, the benefit to Ukraine economy will be in the millions of dollars, per year in nuclear tourism and in eco tourism also , as the 100km 'No Go' zone around Priyat and Chernobyl has resulted in a Mecca of resurgence of native wildlife , that had previously disappeared including wild boar, bear, deer and thousands of bird species and fish . They are all doing well . I would like to visit soon. This is fabulous and is supported by everyone in Ukraine and internationally as well. The UN and the USA supports Pripyat and Chernobyl in becoming a world heritage site in perpetuity .The thinking people all over the world are very supportive of the Chernobyl Remembrance Project and related Natural reserve initiatives as the article very well illustrates. Naturally , the tours will be safely run and the radiation levels will be monitered and minimized, with HAZ MAT - Radiation suits . Idi Ukraina !

The United Nations Development Program chief Helen Clark toured the Chernobyl plant together with Baloha on Sunday and said she supported the plan because it could help raise money and tell an important lesson about nuclear safety.

"Personally I think there is an opportunity to tell a story here and of course the process of telling a story, even a sad story, is something that is positive in economic terms and positive in conveying very important messages," said Clark.

The story says this was the world's worst nuclear disaster. I take issue with the use of the word "disaster." How about Hiroshima and Nagasaki? If they called it the worst nuclear "accident" I would not disagree.

I noticed later you had already made a "glow" joke, and here have followed it up with several additional worthy entries.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. After reading the "kneejerk" reactions of people to this topic I must say that many of them demonstrate very little knowledge about radiation, nuclear energy, etc. No doubt they also belong to the NIMBY club (probably as charter members). With proper care and precautions I see no reason why tours cnnot be made of Chernobyl. I myself would be interested in seeing the region.

BTW: To the bleeding heart who is again moaning about Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Have you ever heard of a war where colateral damage does not occur? Leaflets were dropped warning the inhabitants of those two cities to flee. They chose to ignore the warnings. Too bad. The savings in lives, to both sides, resulting from the shortenting of the war more than offset the casulties of the bombings. Take your pity back to your "Ain't gonna fight no more wars" club where it might be listened to. Don't waste our time with your attempts to load guilt. It won't work.

Dead city,, Grass growing up in the streets, broken windows and chipped paint kind of creepy,, Lots and lots of fresh concrete,, Some folks still live there as amazing as that is. Also there are already tours there. They keep having to add more and more cement to the reactor as some thing about the Radiation making the concrete weak after a short period of time. The sheer weight of the stuff is actually sinking the reactor into the ground. Also the 2 foot long earth worms are interesting ,,,lol,,,

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Sagittarius

Relationships have been going through through testing times since the Solar Eclipse at last month's New Moon in Gemini on May 20. Events may force you to reevaluate the state of a partnership. You may even decide that you need to make some major adjustments if things are to carry on as you would like. During the coming fortnight leading up to the rare second New Moon in Gemini, this may feel like a crisis, but that doesn't mean you should abandon all hope or throw out the baby with the bathwater.
