Former republic of SSSR have left Russianasa official language ,but why should not Ukraine?
I take it you mean USSR. Russia has puppet dictators set up in some old countries that didn't embrace freedom to its fullest. Ukraine is for Ukrainians and the language should be by law Ukrainian. Eastern Ukraine has been poisoned by the Ruskies for a lengthy period of time. Does that mean Ukrainians should surrender and give up their rich heritage. Russians have brutalized and spread their cancer in many places. Why don't Russians speak English ? They lost the cold war. Defeated by the ones who stand for human rights and freedoms. It's sad how the Ukrainians are under a relentless assault. It would be a shame for Russians to rewrite the history books and education system. Remember starvation failed to work, other ways are still modern day genocide.
Courage is being scared to death but still finding the strength to fight for your convictions! Harms way may fall on Ukraine but when the noose loosens, some how, some way, I know good people wait to cherish a new dawn.

Without saying which side is right, at least they have the guts to stand up for their beliefs. That is certainly an improvementover the "wheel and deals" weenies in the U.S.Congress. Now if the Rada could just work instead on things which would benefit the people. The language issue will sort itself out. Switzerland has three official language, Canada two, U.S. NONE. People in Ukraine switch back and forth from Rusian to Ukrainian as needed with very little friction. It is only the die hards on both sides who make such a big issue of it.
My little grandaughter, age six, speaks both and is learning English in school. It doesn't seem to hurt her a bit. The youonger generation will eventually put this silly argument to rest.

When a government in Ukraine can't or won't do anything worthwhile to help the economy or the people.... they bring in language disputes, even though the normal folks work it out on their own. Yes eventually English will be the main language around the world, and that is that. The US system does not work well. Nothing gets done until there is an actual crisis. In Canada we have a parliamentary system. The pointed heads( deputy ministers)advise the cabinet ministers and Prime Minister that then look at the finances and decide what the country can afford and what it cannot afford, then taxes and expenditures are determined, and the budget is set. It all happens continually and a budget is done in a matter of months every year. If the people don't like it they can kick the government out every for 4 years or sooner if it is a minority government. So things work quite well.It is called parliamentary democracy, invented in England 1000 years ago....

Yes. The best government is one that leaves you alone to make your own way in life and commerce. The British beheaded and deposed Charles I, and replaced him for a republican democracy, only to find out that the government was soon in squabbling shambles and then brought back his son good mnatured and humourist Charles II.Charles II was a people's monarch and often went for walks somewhat disguised alone in London down the Pall Mall and spoke to the common folks to see what was happening in reality .I agree withyou WP that the Diamond Jubilee is a fine show piece of what a proper monarchy can be. The Russian Empire could have had that, but unfortunately physically eliminated Tsar Nicholas, and his whole family AFTER he voluntarily abdicated the throne.... not exactly The Marquis of Queesbury rules , I dare say. Now the Russians are busily reconstructing the Romanov bones and canonizing everyone in the family. Makes one wonder.People need continuity and certainty the most in life. A monarchy provides that.Splendid naval regatta on the Thames by the way.I felt I was in London again on the Thames.

Thomas Jefferson thought that a revolution each 50 years would not be a bad idea. That way the government could never get to big or powerful. Smart man old Thomas.
He also said that "The best form of Government is the least form of government".

Government growth reminds me of contracts and lawyers. Many years ago two people made a deal, shook hands, and stood by their word. Then the lawyers got involved teaching overyone how they could not trust anyone else and needed the assistance of lawyers (for a fee of course). Look at the situation now. Terrible.

Lawyers are blamed all the time for everything in all countries .Even Shakespeare in a subtle irony stated in Hamlet " First Let's kill all the Lawyers ". He did not mean it of course, as lawyers were the bearers of knowledge and wisdom in ancient times. Of course in the 1930s, Hitler's Nazi State and Stalin's USSR did just that, they killed all the lawyers, so no one could defend themselves with lawyers. Mind you, in the USA when your nuts are in a vice and the IRS wants your money and home and business and wants your butt in the bucket for a long stretch of 10 years for tax evasion, or your marriage goes sour and your wife wants your nuts for paper weights in a divorce case or you run over a drunkin mexican vagrant in San Diego on holiday and a local DA wants 20 years for you, because his boss is running for re -election as District Attorney in San Diego and he needs the Latino vote, then you will bet your sorry lawyer hating butt, that you will want the best lawyer you can get for your money. So ya ... it all depends what happens to you in life! If you are lucky, you will just need a lawyer for is to buy a house or make a will, or to probate your estate when you croak, so the state doesn't get it all. So.... you will still need lawyers to do those things. There is no gettin around it... I even hire lawyers, because, as strange as it seems, I don't know everything.... HE He . Cheers.

Many of the Founding Fathers of America were educated lawyers of course, including the one of the main drafters and signatory of the US Constitution , John Hancock. Jefferson handled many cases as a lawyer in colonial Virginia, and was very active from 1768 to 1773. Jefferson's client list included members of the Virginia's elite families, including members of his mother's family, the Randolphs.

Beside practicing law, Jefferson represented Albemarle County in the Virginia House of Burgesses beginning on May 11, 1769 and ending June 20, 1775.[38] His friend and mentor George Wythe served at the same time. Following the passage of the Coercive Acts by the British Parliament in 1774, Jefferson wrote a set of resolutions against the acts, which were expanded into A Summary View of the Rights of British America, his first published work. Previous criticism of the Coercive Acts had focused on legal and constitutional issues, but Jefferson offered the radical notion that the colonists had the natural right to govern themselves.[39] Jefferson argued that Parliament was the legislature of Great Britain only, and had no legislative authority in the colonies. The paper was intended to serve as instructions for the Virginia delegation of the First Continental Congress, but Jefferson's ideas proved to be too radical for that body.

Lawyers are not intrinsically evil, they are just a sign of the moral decay which is prevalent throughout the world. Honesty and the keeping of one's word seem to be disappearing fast. The "dog eat dog" world cannot survive. I shudder to think what the future holds for humanity. The world of "Mad Max' seems to be looming on the horizon.

You're not Ukrainian, Moskal! No Ukrainian would claim that Kyiv is a Russian city and it's certainly not the centre of Russia, it was the centre of Kyivan Rus, which is where Ukraine, Russia and Belarus all claim to be descended from, but it is not the same as Russia. "Malorussia" means 'little Russia', not the centre of Russia, you idiot, which was a derogatory term used by Russians against Ukrainians to indicate that they were inferior. No Ukrainian patriot would claim that Kyiv is a Russian city or use the term "malorussia" or dismiss the Ukrainian language and Western Ukraine, you're not fooling anyone, katsap.

How old are the 10 commandments? thousands of years ( you can work it out but not important).. What has happened to most cultures which abandoned their teachings-- gone ( and probably good riddance).

You just not have met any good ones I guess recently. It is just a bad stereotype really. Many lawyers are great scholars , philosphers and contributors to society like Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock Justice Felix Frankfurter,Justice Learned Hand, Roosevelt,The .John Kennedy. They are the defenders of society and individuals against opression. It depends on what you do though .If you are in business, you need them. But yes it is fun to hate lawyers. You must pick and choose though. One thing for sure, most lawyers are hard workers, so they get rich and naturally people begin to hate them and get jealous. So American idiom has become " I will get a jew lawyer ",to get me off, even though only about 10% of lawyers are jewish. It is a mix of anti semitism, blue collar values and the general dumbing down of Americans that has ocurred.Society is becoming ungovernable, as respect for law, institutions, governments and lawyers all have diminished. So that leaves the street to settle it all .

What you speak is Ukrainian with a Russian accent now in Kiev. You are still speaking what was called Malorussian or the South Russian Dialect in 1895, so yes it could be called russian, but it is 95% standard ukrainan. It is not like Moscow Russian at all.You call it russian , I call it ukrainian,as I can tell the difference between the two languages.

as for me, ukrainian modern state idea has bankrupted.
So, russians from east are realized their dream: There is a state, called "Ukraine" (for them- MaloRossia). But this "Ukraine" is totally dominated by russians, there is no place for native ukrainians in this state. Brilliant solution. Noe ukrainiands like Indians on their own land.
I dont want to argue with nationalists, because their ideas bankrupted totally. Ukrainian population have to broke this "ukrainian state" and start new one in West Part of Ukraine. And our natural ally is Poland. No any other, only Poland.
