Many many years ago the Word was in common use in some circles...(In Fact, One poster says it is still commonly used in some parts of the South, and by both races, Oh Well).... as were a lot of other words later made popular by that old TV Show "All In The Family". Some people even took Archie's act on the show, to represent how white people actually behaved. Even before that time (when I was very young) I happened to think that the term was interchangeable with and just a different pronunciation of the word Negro. I was told very early though, by my parents that the word was offensive and of course I didn't use it around my Black friends. I didn't use it much at all, for that matter. What really puzzles me is, if the word is offensive why are You or any, or, might I say many, Black people trying to have the word make a comeback? That doesn't make sense at all, to me, or to Bill Cosby.
