I liked SNL when they were more politically incorrect. But I do still enjoy the opening skits and the News segment.

SNL was truly humorous, sophisticated, grown-up fare in the late 1970s but as younger and younger audiences tuned in, the show got dumbed down for those who had no idea who some of the references were about (Thornton Wilder, Wm. Buckley, et al). It turned into a children's/teenagers' show, and has stayed there for decades now. It is the audience that NBC wanted, not the grown-ups. Oh, I do watch once every couple months, but I don't recall even smiling lately.

Who cares. There are more important things going on in the world today. Not to mention that the current cast and writers of SNL couldn't do comedy well enough to get themselves out of a wet paper bag...even if the bag was perforated.

I can't believe how many people still hate on SNL. It's had it's ups and downs, as we all know, but it's not 1999 anymore. Anyone who thinks we're in a down period this season (and the last 3) has obviously not been watching. When it's back on (soon, hopefully), if you love good improv/sketch comedy, you can't miss it. The current cast is absolutely the best group since the big '84 overhaul. Funniest stuff on TV.

"Everybody's in a holding pattern right now," Thompson said of the "SNL" staff. "It's a shame. All these creative people are just sitting around. We've obviously got material we're waiting to unleash on the world." Yes all those creative people sitting around, not to mention the writers.
