What a "travesty", an "embarrassment" and even greater "disappointment" your opening Fall Festival production of the Gilbert and Sullivan "Pirates of Penzance" demonstrated. I watched two minutes of it, at the beginning and in the middle. My second viewing confirmed that the personal judgment of the decision maker to bring this to the screen is seriously impaired. The "over the top" comedy and body language suggest this production was more fitting for a gay bar. The rhythms were shameful and brought the whole production to the lowest common denominator in order to appeal to the uneducated masses. Shame on you whoever you are. That decision was not in keeping with the "quality" PBS has come to represent to most of the viewing public.
