Why is Comcast requiring me to get 1 box free and rent any other boxes in ordre to receive digital cable?

It's not our fault everything is going digital and that we are stuck paying higher cable bills because of it. My question is, if you are currently a subscriber to a cable provider once we go digital we have to pay extra for it? That's just not right.
