I can't imagine how much pressure ABC is putting on journalists to write something positive about the lackluster Bachelorette.

A more balanced view is that it's doing OK for a summer show as it is neck and neck with... re-runs.

Actually, a completely-honest report would say something along the lines of, "The ratings for girls and women ages 15-32 are high for The Bachelorette, and since they're the only demo ABC and the advertisers behind the show care about, everything else is irrelevant."

But you'll never see that in an article about The Bachelorette or any other female-skewing show. That's not misogyny, by the way...that's based on actual data, which shows that women and girls ages 15-32 are traditionally the target viewer of shows like this. Doesn't say much about the creators of such shows, who obviously have low opinions about young women, but eh.

Sexism is harder to sell to the press as PR spin as journalists are aware they're not supposed to be openly sexist (or racist). That's why ageism is the PR spin of choice as it's apparently perfectly politically correct in journalism circles to discriminate based on age.

I was actually floored when Dawn Ostroff said that she didn't want young males watching CW and the politically correct classes didn't jump all over her. Than again tey may have behind the scenes as she never uttered that spin again (which originally was to justify why she had let the WWE show escape to MyNetwork TV, giving them their first toehold into being an actual potential network).

sometimes you don't realize how dumb something is until you say it out loud. maybe that was the case here. ;)

I think you make a good point, although I think she didn't realize it was politically incorrect and contradicting the industry's spin.

The CW schedule is clear evidence that "stupid", at least when it comes to programming decisions is something she rarely shies away from.
