I think this is great, but as always there doesn't seem to be any talk about those of us who had/have cancer and cannot get health insurance. We are the self employed, independent contractors or work for companies that don't offer insurance. Yes, insurance companies will deny you coverage, or charge you exorbitant premiums and co-pays or give you coverage that excludes any coverage for anything cancer related, wonderful.
This event seems good spirited and they have their intentions in the right place, it's great, but let's talk about those of us who cannot afford to see a doctor for follow-up care, or get a yearly necessary PET scan to check for tumors. It's not fun being on the phone many hours a day with "all" the companies trying to convince them to take a chance on you. In this country healthcare is a privilege and not a right. |

Get real,,, Stand Up To Cancer is no more than a bunch of persons with the goofy notion that you just have a telethon and 'sing Kum Ba Yah' and there comes a cure. Have a clue for goodness sakes; all our greatest medical breakthroughs (penicillin being one of them) were discovered BY ACCIDENT not by direct research. If it was just a case of investing money, don't you think we would have a cure for cancer by now? Get real. The most annoying thing done by the cancer association is when it changed the follow-up period from 10 years to 5 years and then had the nerve to claim an 'increase' in longevity. What a crock. Another annoyance is that we are STILL hanging on to the old 'nuke and burn' approach to cancer. If chemo and raditaion 'therapy'(what a joke calling that kind of butchery,'therapy') came out nowadays, it could NEVER get FDA approval - the side effects are insanely absurd. This so-called 'therapy' is based on the idea of trying to poison the bad tissue before killing the rest of the body. What kind of B.S. is that? Truth is, if you get a cancer that can be cleanly cut out, you'll usually be fine. When we abandon the 'poison' approach and focus more on genetic approaches exclusively - we will be on the road for a real cure.
Radiation and Chemo is one day going to be looked back at like we look at some of the 'cures' in medieval times and generations of the future will shake their heads and laugh at the ignorance of it all. Stand Up Against Stupidity, would be a better and more useful cause. Sheesh! |

Sorry to pop your bubble, but wait a year after the funds are used from this telethon.... Guess what, all we will have got out of it will be some good concert footage and managed to waste our time with another telethon. People will still be continue to be 'treated' by the poison,'nuke and burn' approach. No cure ever came about this way - through a telethon. Never has, never will. But if ya want to hold hands and sing 'Kum Ba Yah', then go ahead and just embrace such blissful ignorance. |

It sounds to me like you decided long ago not to purchase personal health insurance and take a chance that your health would be fine. Then you developed some form of cancer, which is in remission, and now you want to purchase insurance with a history of cancer in your health background. I'm not second guessing you, as many younger people do this, figuring it couldn't happen to them, but if you gambled and lost, this is the result. Sort of like not having car insurance, having some chargeable accidents, and now wanting to purchase insurance with a good driver's discount after the fact. You can't blame the insurance companies, as they spread the risk over all their insured, so the ones who have greater risk of higher cost to them will pay higher premiums. Otherwise, everyone insured with your insurance company would charged higher premiums for your tardiness in being insured earlier. I started early in life paying premiums and not using the service, but sure was glad when I had to use the insurance that I had it. Medical bills are the one thing that can wipe your assets out completely. |

I wonder how many of these celebrities are also ones that are vocal against animal research? They do know that ultimately the money they raised is going to go to animal research in order to find a cure, right? LOL. |

how in the world could Patrick Swayze not be mentioned in this article? What an inspiration he is to all us survivors.

I hope some of the POS celebrities actually have a passion for finding a cure and are doing something about it. It just seems that some are using this opportunity to get in the spotlight.

Yeah it's a good thing we're spending $10 BILLION a month in a war with a country that had absolutely no involvement in 9/11, and that's a fact. Sadly yesterday I found that ALTHOUGH IT'S BEEN CONCLUSIVELY PROVEN that Saddam HATED al queda (because he loved power), a majority of the public still thinks Iraq had something to do with 9/11, AND they still think that WMDs were found in Iraq, which they weren't.(The only WMDs that were found in Iraq? THE ONES REAGAN SOLD TO HIM when Iraq was at war with Iran. Look it up, i'm not gonna explain it to you. Google it.) It's a war for oil. You people should read the news, then you'd have a clue what's going on in the world. Might I add, read alternative news, don't rely on CBS, NBC and ABC to get your news, they're all 'in' on it. They're owned by companies that produce war materials, they'd be crazy and cut into their bottom line if they reported the truth. Oh don't even watch Faux news. rawstory.com alternet.org norml.org Three sources I read daily. My TV's only good for watching the Eagles or catching the weather, which is useless because I have two different weather widgets in my menu bar that give me the next week's forecast and are updated every 15 minutes, but it's good to know about all the hurricanes battering the country, which are more common because of global warming. Did you guys even know that a major 17 square mile ice shelf in the arctic broke loose? Yup, the planet is gonna be flooded soon, and with all the extra moisture in the air (instead of frozen in the form of ice) the hurricanes are, obviously, more powerful. But go pray to your god, I'm sure that will fix everything. Sit on your ass and pray while other people who DON'T believe in such horsesh!+ are out taking over the world. |
