TV Reviews What ails NBC's 'L&O: Criminal Intent' Wolf's...

The article seemed to be laying the blame in the wrong place for the decrease in numbers. How about the apparent lack of respect from the network? The show seems to be forever pre-empted for specials and such. Why would anyone want to tune in, when they know that NBC is going to be repeating episodes a dozen times over?

well, we are all entitled to our opinions, but it seems pretty clear that the author has not payed any attention to Logan and Barek...clearly Chris and Annabella's beauty is blinding. anyhoo--Logan is a bit of a maverick, but a mostly normal guy. Barek is a bit quirky. she talks "to herself," but out loud, and while only a foot or so from others. she speaks several languages, and has a low tolerance level for mindless beurocracy. she has interesting friends, like Goren, too.
i blame the network. period. Law & Order: Criminal Intent is on every day, at least once a day, and usually not fewer than two times a day. on sundays, it is on up to 15 times--and that is on up to 3 channels, and NOT part of a marathon. what other show has so much airtime? low ratings, i do not believe it.(the neilson site was down for the last 2 sweeps periods. i know for a fact that the data they use to calculate ratings are flawed.) |

I don't know about the ratings data exactly, but I do believe that the ratings are correctly down on the show. Logan and Barek are just not as interesting as Goren and Eames. If I wanted to see Logan and Barek type of detective work I would watch the original Law & Order which I don't watch on a regular basis. I think that Annabella is a fantastic actress, but either she is misinterpreting her character or the character is just written incorrectly, she has no spark and she really does kind of look like an escaped mental patient with her loose layered clothes and big jackets and so forth. They tried to fix the character a bit by showing her tough side, but even that seems a little inauthentic. In terms of Logan Noth too seems to have lost the spark that made him an interesting detective, he has slid down a long way from the episode where he guest starred with Goren and Eames which he was terrific in. I believe Noth is a good actor, but I think that maybe from doing the character for so long he has become complacent and is sort of going through the motions. The only thing that has not kept the ratings from plummeting on the weeks when there are Logan and Barek episodes is the fact that the plot lines for their episodes have been very interesting, so you watch for the plot but not so much their characters. Their handling of the cases is preposterous. Their botching up embarasses them and their credibility in front of the audience, like the episode where Logan tried to get a confession out of Whoopi Goldberg. His credibility was shot to hell when he looked like he was trying to do what Goren usually does and failed miserably. Then there is the shooting incident when he accidently shoots the cop who is waving the gun. The audience doesn't really blame him but we can't help but wonder if Goren or Eames would have made the same mistake or if it was the cowboy spirit that took over Logan because he didn't know the guy was a cop so who cares right?

I agree with most that the 2 new cast members are just not as interesting as Goren & Eames. They are good actors & they could probably have their own show if they had someone writing stories just for them, but it's difficult to come into a show where such a fan base has built up for D'Onofrio. I feel for them. On the other hand, I understand that Vincent had to cut back for health reasons. Then I see how many movies and plays he's doing on the side. I'm beginning to think he has a death wish. Or more likely he's trying to stay insanely busy so he doesn't have to think. I hope he's in therapy because he's too talented for us to lose him. I believe people who are incredibly talented are like thorougbreds: extremely high strung, intense, super sensitive and therefore vulnerable. HANG IN THERE VINCENT - WE DESPERATELY NEED ACTORS OF YOUR CALIBER ON TV. You're the only one I like to watch on TV.

I thought you would be interested in this.
I have finally figured what the TV show LOST actually is. It is a video game. Yeah, I know, you think I'm nuts. At least read this, or you could be missing a huge story. Just bear with me and keep in mind that the LOST creators just finished orchestrating the World's largest and longest Scavenger Hunt- The LOST Experience. They are into games, very into games. I have detailed exactly how the game is played on my website www.LOSTisaGame.com . Why not spend a few minutes there? It will be well worth your time. Here's a synopsis of how the game is played: "Two players. Two sides. One is light. One is dark." Locke S1E2 The Light player is 'good' and the Dark player is 'bad'. At the start of each level, the characters are in a mixture of 'good' and 'bad' roles. The Light player is required to manipulate the characters into 'good' roles by choosing the actions that they take when faced with a variety of obstacles and situations. The way in which the character responds to these obstacles and situations determines which role that character takes on. The Dark player attempts to manipulate the characters into 'bad' roles by placing obstacles in their way. The obstacles can be the various versions of the monster or they can be introduced into the game by creating situations via game prompts that can result in 'bad' choices being made. The two players create the details about the main characters' everyday lives on the island and their individual back stories (flashbacks) by responding to a series of prompts during the game. A list of pre-set options to choose from actually results in all of the duplications that occur on LOST. Points can be won for a variety of accomplishments such as finding items like the Dharma hatches & stations, the power sources and maps & keys. Points can also be won for actions such as cooperating or saving people. There are six levels in the game and there are time limits for completing the levels. However, additional time can be earned when a character accomplishes certain objectives. A level is completed when all of the objectives for that level have been accomplished and when the character in the role of the White Rabbit actually goes down the hole. Level 1 and Level 2 have been completed. Season 3 will represent Level 3 All characters are reset to their original 'good' and 'bad' roles at the beginning of the next level. Memory losses and eye color changes often result when a character switches to a different role. The game is won when all six levels are completed. The game can be played by just one player. In that case, the game itself would be the Dark or 'bad' player. Enjoy! all_games |

I would like to know if anyone has heard that Vincent D'Onofrio is leaving Criminal Intent. I got the TV Guide for next week and Chris Noth is on again. Don't get me wrong, I like Chris but he is kind of dull compared to Vincent. They have been rotatina every other week, but Chris and partner were on THIS week. Perhaps they all went on vacation. Anyone hear anything, please let me know. Thanks.

It's not "carved in stone" and NBC is keeping it hush-hush, but from what I'm sensing, Vincent's days are short! He's already commented in several interviews that this may be his last year with the show! Vincent won't definitely say he won't be back (I'm sure he'd want the network to make the actual announcement!) but it's clear from his appearance or lack of appearances that's giving his fans a clear picture! I'm noticing that Vincent isn't on as many CI episodes this year (2007)??? And when he is, there's no excitement or spark in his performances!! He appears to be tired, fat and uninterested in his character (Det. Goren) Vincent looks so old, heavy and weary now. That's not a good sign, I hope and pray that he'll lose the extra pounds and get back in shape and looking good as he did during the Law & Order:CI espisodes 2001-2004!! Just because he's a few years older now, doesn't mean he has to look like it!! |

As to sparkle4u's comments about Vincent looking out of shape and uninterested. A lot of people have commented that he was doing that because of the plot arch of his mother being sick long before we even found out about it. As to the weight issue, some of it maybe unintentional too as others have commented, but I think part of it is that he gained an enormous amount of weight for The Breakup porbably about 30-40 pounds in my opinion and he hasn't lost it all yet. Frankly I don't think it was necessary at all to gain that much weight for that character and such a small part in a rather dull movie too, but that's Donofrio going all out again, and I think he found out this time the hard way that now that he is older it is much harder to lose the weight. I think there is something to the intentional weariness of the character because in the latest episode he commented that everything was fine in his personal life and there was definitely a noticeable difference in the character he was much more passionate and animated almost trying to capture the old season 1 and 2 days in my opinion.

Kate, you're right...as we get older, it's much more difficult to LOSE the extra weight. But I'd hope Vincent will do so before too much longer. He doesn't look that healthy...and he looks so tired!!! I don't like his Season 6 look...
I'm wondering if Kathryn Erbe has said anything to him about the additional weight gain?? Or his wife Carin... She should be very concerned about this too. Extra weight puts an unhealthy burden upon the heart, causes high blood pressure and can cause one to develope diabetes!! So it's not just a Hollywood "physical thing" we're talking about. It's a healthy lifestyle; living a long and prosperous life! I admire Vincent and I want him around a long time, looking and feeling his very best! |

I love the work that Vincent d'onofrio has been doing for years. he is great in loci. I love him with the weight, its appealing to me. but i do care about him being healthy and i pray that he is. i love the gray hair and all that comes with it. and do realize the concerns everyone has for his health. so we will continue to enjoy him and wish the best for him as the talented actor that he is. hoping the best for him and his family also.

If D'Onofrio leaves the show I will have a broken heart Goren and Eams are the best, I pray its not over. As for Noth I never really relished him. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

In my opinion, I believe this will be Mr. D'Onofrio's last season with Law & Order: CI. I've read that he sold his condo (no one knows where he and his family are living now) And NBC has already rescheduled a Goren/Eames episode (Silencer's) Another re-run is set to air March 20th.
I'm in agreement, that the extra weight has affected Mr. D'Onofrio's appearance and maybe even his health. He's gained so much weight from Season 1 to Season 6... And it's not difficult to noticed the change in his appearance and a lack luster performance this year as well. I must confess that I'm not enjoying this season very much at all!! I wish that we could see the "genius and the "quirky" detective that we've known from the beginning of LOCI. He's missing in action... |

According to the Boston Glove Vincent D. is leaving the end of this season. Hope Noth will not be taking over the series....he is not a very good actor. He smirks, lifts an eyebrow and some of his lines are just not very well acted. Think that the raving that goes on about him is his part of Mr. Big.. that was just a part...He certainly isn't that dream man that walks into and out of anyone's life... He is a 50 or so year old man who isn't giving up the fight to stay younger...Peterson from CSI is the same age and he looks 10 years younger.
