TV Guide reported, though, that NBC is not all that concerned with Letterman's ratings win, since Conan won in the "coveted" demo of the 18-49 set. Given that the average age of Conan's viewers, according to the same article, is 46, one wonders exactly where in that mix are the "youthful" viewers that NBC claims are Conan's biggest fans.

Ah, well...delusion is the last bastion of the purposefully-ignorant.

Not surprised. I'm in the coveted demo group, but I've never watched Conan. I tried but to me he just wasn't funny. I've tried the new Tonight Show several times, but I can't get through the monologue because a few things turn me off. One is the extended opening with the band holding the note to prolong applause. It's done daily and seems to be an attempt to make Conan seem more popular than he really is. The other is Conan's irritating mugging and hopping around during the monologue. This is just an unfunny distraction. Andy Richter is boring and unfunny. He's not close to Ed McMahon or even Kevin Eubanks.

letterman has always been been better then Leno and Now O'Brien. The tonight show died after Carson left.

Conan Obrien? There were so many, who were much better, left standing in the sidelines.

I have never liked Conan, I was surprised he lasted on his show as long as he did and I was baffled when I heard he was taking over the tonight show. I realized there must be SOMETHING about him for them to keep him on... but I have tried to watch him several times and have NEVER even ONE TIME heard anything funny or even amusing from him -- even by accident! His inane skits are like a child’s “look what I can do” just because he is on TV. I have really enjoyed the Jimmy Fallen show and sorry to see he has kept some of Conan’s skits (maybe he has to) but he should have been the one to take over the tonight show! I always have watched the Tonight Show, but the arrogant and self center David Letterman is even sounding pretty good at this point.

I agree that Craig Ferguson is a hoot, but his brand of comedy sometimes wears very thin, and I don't know that he'd do much better in an earlier time slot (if Ferguson was ever even considered to fill Jay Leno's spot, which I don't recall reading that he was). Conan will continue to decline, simply because he is like the goofy cousin at the family reunion who is only funny for the first fifteen minutes; then, everyone goes quickly out into the backyard to "check out the new barbecue."
