The BBC is planning to axe Last of The Summer Wine after more than 35 years on the air, its producer claimed last night.

I HOPE this is NOT going to happen. I, and my family LOVE this show. We LOOK forward to every day! It's our favorite family show. I have a 12 year old and a 15 year old. The fact that THEY love it and the characters SHOULD say something. It is a RELEVANT show!! We love ALL of them. Don't CANX it!!!

Since your post is only 9 hours old on this story from 12-15-2008, let me make sure of one thing first:
you ARE talking about LOTSW, the show from UK that's been running for 30 years? If so, don't fret too much. I have been a fan for several years now, I liked it a little at first, then couldn't watch it, then after starting to get into all its aspects, I do like it very much. Let me assume you are in the US (AOL...). Well, you CAN download LOTSW via www.thebox.bz or buy the DVD's. The PBS system in Maryland cycles through all 30 years on a weekday basis, only missing the yearly specials, perhaps yours does, too? thebox does necessitate downloaders to seed also, but, since thebox only concerns itself with anything shown on UK TV, we appear to be safe here in the US, as they don't allow any US TV or Movies. From thebox, I just watched World Rally Cup (I like some motorsports) and am downloading today's episode of the very British soap EastEnders, which, I'm don't know how mature your kids are, but they do tackle mature subjects, but I'm kinda addicted to it. Anyway, LOTSW will end sometime, Roy Clarke can't live forever, but with 30 years to look at, including specials, there sure are a lot of episodes to watch. Hope this helps! |

Just wanted to say I hope that the show runs for another 35 years. This gentle program about the later years in our lives has some of the best examples of kindness and just plain joy in the simple things in life that I have seen on any program in years. It demeans no one. It shows how much communities, large and small are still important in everyone's lives, as they are to the community. I have heard it said that it takes a village to raise a child .... I would like to think somewhere 'this' village continues to instill all of it's gentle wisdom and humor to the world. I would hate to see it end while it is still so needed, very few shows have this quality.
