Tammy, I am a flight attendant with a major carrier and you are grossly ignorant about what a flight attendant's job and responsibilities entail.
As fa's we are regulated by a federal government entity called the FAA. The FAA sets rules that regulate, among many things, the cabin environment. When I am on the airplane, I am required by law to be the enforcer of these FAA regulations. The enforcement of these regulations takes precedence over customer service issues. Some of these regulations encompass the following: when to turn off cell phones, where you can stow luggage, when you are allowed to have a drink, when you are allowed to stand, etc.... If these regulations are not enforced by the flight attendant their airline may incur a monetary fine by the FAA and the flight attendant may incure a fine payable out of their own pocket.
The FAA also has a rule that does not allow any passenger to interfere with the enforcement of these rules. So, for example, if I tell you to turn off your cell phone, I am only doing what the law requires me to do.
From your post, it sounds like you are one of those passengers who has a problem with following the rules. You don't like to be told what to do, but I am only doing my job when I enforce the rules, so don't take it personally. Everybody has to follow these rules.
Oh and you are right customer service has deteriorated greatly, but there are many factors that have contributed to this. One factor is passenger ignorance and unrealistic expectations. You will always be disappointed if you expect to have a servant on the plane because there is none. You do have flight attendants that usually do the best they can to make sure you get from point A to point B safely.

Orphanannie if you have ever worked in the customer service field, you will realize that 95% of all customers are fine but 5% cause most of the problems. This 5% does not behave rationally either because they have psychological problems, anger management issues, etc...
If you've never been a flight attendant (I'm assuming you haven't) who encounters hundreds of people a day, you cannot even begin to imagine what kind of people are in that 5% fringe element with every kind of psychological disorder that you've only ever seen on television before. You also cannot imagine what it is like to deal with this 5%. There is no logic, common sense, or kind word that will make a difference.
You are assuming that all passengers are like you and will react to situations like you do and nothing could be further from the truth. For example, a random case here, I've seen someone fly into a rage because a blanket had a stain on it, scream and throw the blanket five rows down on top of other passengers. No one (flight attendants or passengers) should be subjected to this kind of abuse just because this passenger could not control themselves in public.
I realize that many people hate flight attendants due to jealousy or ignorance or what ever their issues are, but try to put your feelings aside and be impartial. The FAA fined Victoria! You do not receive a fine from the FAA unless you have committed an infraction. Those are the facts.

Hey Agnes thanks for sharing what you job is really like. I have never had a problem being a customer on a flight nor anywhere else.

But it seems that everywhere I go from pharmacies, to stores, to doctor's offices and parking lots to traffic there seem to be the bratty and entitled, pulling a screaming prima donna acting out all theur frustrations not only only clerks but all those held captive.

Must be Americans watch too much tv or need some counselling. I am tired of being held captive by the maladjsuted who are shaving time off o my very short life.

Strange how I can have patience and treat others as valuable people and not a whipping post.

I have also been assualted on the job and no one did anything about it so I can understand how the flight attendants feel.

I am glad that I wasn't on that flight and had to suffer delays for the self- righteous' and their bad attitudes.

It's possible, as you say, Norma, that I'm a very sick man who needs help, but it's equally possible I'm a very gifted man who needs a publisher? Essentially the same conundrum Jesus found himself in when beseiged by the Romans.

Is it the toruring part that makes me "sick" Norma? Because I don't torture anybody (except here in the forums, and that's only figurative and essentially self-induced.) But there are lots of Americans who do and are paid to do so. Many of them live here in the Washington area now, but I notice lots of them have that effeminate drawl and the big hat in the closet, and the crosses all over the walls.
