Oh, the horror! Standing at his white board alone, talking to himself, scribbling possibilities and turning to ... No one.

I for one am delighted to have a break from the rather repetitious interactions between House and his former fellows, Foreman, Chase, and Cameron. The golden moments of humor, poignancy, warmth and drama between House and his faithful familiars Cuddy and Wilson will more than make up for a lack of lackeys. Hugh Laurie, Lisa Edelstein, and Robert Sean Leonard can act the pants off of 40 new candidates any week of the season.

Well...I just previewed a tape sent to me by Doris Gretchen of Fox programming with the 1st two new "House" episodes , and once again they are attempting to "match" Gregory House with a long lost love intrest. This time ...in the series opener....its "Charo" guest starring as Houses former lover, and the show revolves around him popping three times the amount of Vicodan every time she says "COO-CHEE COO_CHEE"

Episode two features Cutty falling into a lesbian love affair with Foremans mother...and Foreman threatens to sue house for supplying the women with GHB..

I'm looking forward to the new series, mostly to see how the new people work out. I don't think this show has ever had an equal balance when dealing with characters who are not House. Cuddy always seemed intended to be a background character (I would have preferred she stay that way given what they've done to the character) but Wilson and Chase always seem to get a bum deal in comparison with Cameron and Foreman (Wilson in particular is shafted in most episodes). Will things change with the new people? I hope so.

Refreshing to see this perspective from a presumably male fan, given how the online 'House' forums I frequent tend to be female-dominated. The big discussion, apart from the current cast shakeup, tends to focus on 'shippy' aspects i.e. character relationships, particularly who's potentially going to hook up with House.

Some of us have noted Cuddy's transformation from bold administrator to easy pushover as the show started last midseason to portray her as a possible romantic interest. Chase started to get more attention from the writers but mostly through that manufactured dalliance with Cameron that IMO represented a huge setback for her character.

Quite frankly, the series never really has developed the supporting cast's storylines fully and this whole 'Survivor'-style stunt indicates that they've given up trying, at least for the time being. Even House's ongoing drug/pain related crises are starting to get repetitive with the whole stubborn refusal to actually tackle the root causes.

The show's unofficial slogan is 'Everybody Lies' but it might as well be 'Nothing Changes.' After three years the original ducklings are now all to familiar with House's behaviour and tricks. Instead of changing the setup so that he'd have to deal with them more as colleagues, he gets a new set of underlings to offend and order about all over again.

Of course I could be proven wrong, which I would actually be happy about, and the writing staff really start to treat House's problems seriously rather than just trotting them out for sweeps periods and brushing them under the carpet right afterwards, and actually delve a little more effectively into the other characters' lives.

As a huge 'House' fan and a Mormon, I find the introduction of an African-American LDS character delightfully intriguing. House's curiousity and blatant cynicism about the religion are amusing, and so far his observations about the faith have been accurate. I only hope that the show doesn't resort to the same banal misconceptions about polygamy, etc. if the storyline continues. By the way, BYU does not have a medical school.

The "House" series is pretty much ho-hum hokum. Same formula. All the hospital docs can never figure out what it is. House stumbles on the answer in the last five minutes of the show via an offhand comment from someone. Here's a example.

CUT TO: PLUMMER comes into men's room where House is just coming out of a toilet stall.

ANGLE ON HOUSE: He washes his hands. Sees the plummer get out his plunger. House rushed out of the men's room.

CUT TO: PATIENT IN BED getting an enema.

CUT TO: HOUSE SURROUNDED BY ADMIRING STUPID DOCS WHO DIDN'T GET THE DIAGNOSIS.

HOUSE: "Well, sometimes it's all a matter of plumbing."

DOCS IN UNISON & OTHERWISE BABBLE ABOUT WHAT A GENIUS THIS ENGLISH ACTOR-TURNED LIMPY DOC IS.
###

And why doesn't somebody FIX House's leg?

It's physician heal thyself!

It should be "series heal thyself." It's rathern LAME!

I agree about the House and Wilson hijinks, but am more interested in what you've thought of the progression since this first episode with regards to those witty escapades.
