Now adays there is a tendency towards doing Breast conservation surgery with radiation. This is what happens after radiation therapy, complications start happening usually 3 to 5 yrs after radiation, which are worse than and often fatal than the disease itself. Patients quickly make emotional decision for less surgery however nothing cures Brest cancer than Halstedian Mastectomy. I have never seen any patient alive 25 yrs after breast irradiation, I have seen 2 dozen patient alive 25, 35, eveN 45 yrs after mastectomies.
