Enjoyed your article, and quite a bit of your observations are valid, but the idea that the casual brutalities and gang-bangs of "gonzo" porn are Bush and Cheney related seems to be looking through a hackneyed Lefty filter. Gonzo flowered during the Clinton years, but more to the point, its circus-like excesses have plenty of historical precedent as crude entertainment for ancient Romans, Edo-period Japanese, etc etc etc. You're not talking about the results of eight years of Republican far-right rule in America. You're talking about a basic component of the human condition, for better or worse. And bringing it around to sending troops to Afghanistan? Not a whole lot of logic in that moment of rhetorical excess.
