David Letterman: Affair led to extortion attempt

Full story: TwinCities.com

In a bombshell announcement on Thursday night's edition of "Late Show with David Letterman," the 62-year-old host said that he had been the target of a $2 million extortion attempt by an unnamed individual who had threatened to reveal that the talk show host had had sexual relations with members of his staff.

Obviously the only way up the ladder at the Letterman show is to sleep with this loon. No other reason any woman in their right mind would have sex with this neanderthal....ewww!

Nothing better than this no talent bum getting his due. He sure liked going after everyone else for their sexual indiscretions. I hope the women/staff members he had the affairs with take him to court and get their monetary rewards. David Letterman quote: If you really want to keep your job or advance you need to "take care of me".

I think it is time for mr. Letterman to step down.
He is not that great and to air his dirty laundry on TV is a disgrace to say the least.

There would be no extortion attempt had he kept himself in check.

Now the real question I have to ask with all of the money he has as well as been on tv for years why would he have to sleep with his staff?
Also I will keep askinguntil someone can give me a decent answer why is it when men and women rise to fame and fortune it seems to bring out the worst in them?

All of the things that is going on now there is so much you could do positive! But if nothing else keep your dirty perversive selves out of the media streamline.
I have never know what the attraction is to Dave?
But it sure as hell would never be to sleep with him! Pathetic and nasty is what he is and way to go Dave teaching your son how to continue to be slime like you are.

So that's why her segments and schticky routines remained a part of the show for so long. Wonder who the other ones were?

WEll, I always knew Letterman was a pig. HOWEVER, I'm glad that he did what he did, and went straight to the police. Now it is between him, his wife, and his mistress.

Fame certainly loosens people's zippers, or am I just naive, and does everyone in the world except me have affairs with co-workers?

If this unnamed guy was low on the totem pole his name would have been released by now. But, because he is a CBS news producer he can purposely be downplayed by the media outlets. Here is the bio on this person. http://newsbizarre.com/2009/10/robert-halderm... #

As Sarah Palin claimed, letterman is a dirty old man.

The roosters have come home to roost with his hypocrisy.

Maybe now, he will understand he is no longer funny doing the same jokes every couple of nights and is not relevant anymore.

I consider myself a L'man fan - or at least I used to. He said 0 about his own responsibility & bad judgment in his antics, in cheating on his wife. His barely funny & limited repertoire regularly pokes fun @ others, often for their publicized sexual behavior. Does he want sympathy? Justice? He should consider how his own stupid actions got him in this position, how pathetic-denial-childish he sounds, & own his screwed up self.

I wonder how much fun this will be for dave and his loved ones having their personal problems, indiscretions, misdeeds, mistakes, and in his case, sexual harrassment splashed all over the internet, talk shows, newspapers and magazines. Sounds like he's already putting on the Polansky liberal victim hat. He certainly had a ball with Sarah Palin's children, and he was like the bully who is only encouraged by cries of protest from the victim. He had a national audience and stage every night from which to lob hurtful comments about someone else's family. Now people will kick him and his family around and speculate on national TV about all of it and as much as he'd like to disappear for a while, that would only postpone and prolong his family's pain. I wonder if he'll ask for privacy? That would be nervy(in a liberal way). Sarah Palin's bible reads as follows: "He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it". and "Pride goeth before the fall and a haughty spirit before destruction." Too bad his loved ones will have to suffer the consequences of his actions.

Not just an affair but affairs - plural! So, does this skirt chaser expect that he'll be forgiven through confession? He brought this on himself. If more than one person knows something, it's not a secret. He would have never come clean if he wasn't being extorted and knowing it would eventually get to the press. I'm sure his handlers advised him to come clean first before word got out (I'm sure the police investigators were going to release it soon anyway), do the pre-emptive strike and portray the victim. But, the staff memebers he had affairs with were the real victims.

OK, let's see if I can add some perspective on this. He had an affair with a woman he worked with; he was not married; the affair took place before his son was born; and the woman involved in the affair is now sleeping with the guy who is doing the extorting. Is there a guy on here who has not had an affair, however brief or extended, with a woman he has worked with? Perhaps only lusted after? This doesn't make him anything more or less than a pretty normal male. I applaud him coming clean on his show. He certainly took the wind out of the sails of this jerk looking to make a fast buck.
