That sucks...Boston Legal is one of my favorites. It's an acquired taste but it's not just another Law and Order clone.

I believe the show is very expensive to produce. Look at who's on the show.

This was the same problem with The Practice. It was costing $6 million an episode and ABC gave it a one-season pickup only if Kelly dropped the budget to $4 million. So Kelley fired the lead actors and brought in James Spader, which led into Boston Legal.

Rather than firing everyone, I guess they just decided to do a half season and give Kelley 13 episodes to tie everything up and call it quits.

As for Life on Mars, Kelley has never shown the ability to do a cop drama. Look at Girl's Club. I don't know why ABC wanted Kelley for the show. I would have thought of Steven Bochco or David Milch.

As I've said before, Boston Legal is the only show I watch on ABC so after BL ends...bye ABC.

Dan Zee, it wasn't that ABC wanted Kelley, it was that they wanted the show. David Kelley owned the U.S. rights to the show, hence ABC had to deal with him.

At least the show will get a proper finale. Most long running shows get axed before they get a chance to end, like Las Vegas. The show will end early 2009 with 101 episodes

This is fine news. 13 shows to close things up is SOOOO much better than how many many other great shows went out. Think about poor Journey Man if you want to see mis-treatment. ABC is doing ok by B.L. I think...

13 is better than none, but I wish it were 22 episodes.

I hope they deal with Denny's "mad cow" alzheimers and Alan finds someone he can love and trust.

They had a good run and they know they're leaving. That's better than the vast majority of shows get.

Boston Legal-the best written, most intelligent show on tv is leaving while idiotic shows like Lost survive. Doesn't make sense.

ABC is the absolute best of the broadcast network. It has all the best shows: "Desperate Housewives", "Grey's Anatomy", "Ugly Betty", "Brothers & Sisters", and newbies "Private Practice", "Dirty Sexy Money", "Pushing Daisies" and "Eli Stone". But the one that makes my head spin is "Lost", so don't you (joy) trash an absolute masterpiece. I also think "Boston Legal" is waaay better than most shows on all the other networks, but at least they're giving it a chance to end properly.

At best, they will be going out on their own terms and not just simply cancelled.

Who better than Bill, as Denny could evoke the often painful emotions of watching a strong, vibrant, and powerful man being slowly taken over by a horrible disease. That would truly be an Emmy, Golden Globe, and any other award to come along.

The only reason they're picking up 13 instead of 22 is because of the high production costs of the show. For that reason Boston Legal probably would have gotten axed by the end of Season 4 but as part of ABC's contract to pick up Life on Mars they had to pick up Boston Legal for Season 5.

One of my favorite shows, I will miss the banter between Denny and Alan. It's a shame, there is so much garbage on TV and they discontinue a really good show like BOSTON LEGAL.
