The issue here is that the contestants futures are at stake, so to just say live tv happens to mess up sometimes is not acceptable. If she cannot concentrate and know what she is watching in order to know if they have sung once or twice, then she is not mentally fit to be a highly paid judge that helps in determining the outcome of something potentially huge for the contestant in question. If she is so out of it, she must be fired or at least an apology would be in order

What about the damage it did to the contestant? Does THAT not count for anything??? This shouldn't be all about Paula, but about the effect it had on Jason Castro and his performance, not to mention what kind of effect it may have had on his votes. Her credibility has been in question for years, but now the entire show's credibility has been "busted". I don't believe this will bring more viewers. From what I have read, it will bring alot less, starting with me.

I think more than ever it just proves that the the Show will through any contestant under the bus that it doesn't view to be worthy of the AI crown. So America really thinks they are crowning the next American Idol, but its really Nigel and his cronies. 2 seconds after Paula said it left me empty and i didn't feel with your 2 songs that you were fighting for the Top 4, but poor kid had to sit on a stool and perform a song that was already judged (and openly to the world). It was almost like elimination night a day early where the contestant had to sing the song that got him voted off. The way they have edited clips to make Jason look like a dumb kid who doesn't even care is absolutely appalling, which in fact is the exact opposite. From other articles i have read, he graduated top 6 in his high school class, and was given a scholarship to Texas A&M for Petroleum Engineering. He entered this competition on a whim as he had only just begun singing 1 year before, and only sang in public 5 times. And he is not living or dying by the competition because to him, its all about the music - he's not in it to be a star. He is just a kid who loves life, and is very grounded, especially in his Faith. He's had countless quotes where basically he says he just wants to serve others. His beliefs are that of an extremely unselfish kid, and that comes across in every goofy facial expression or saying. His love of music comes through when he sings (and this studio performances are simply amazing) And this is why his fan base loves him, and why they believe he is the next American IDOL. Because sadly we live in a world right now where there aren't enough Jason Catro's for kids to emulate. If my children had 1/2 the character that Jason appears to have, i would be extremely proud. But this is reality TV and its about greed and ratings - i don't think we should expect these people to show any regard to the contestants and who/what they are and represent.

Excellent Post!!! I think the judges SHOULD NOT ever be allowed to see the performance (dress rehersals) beforehand. They should watch it live, just like the rest of us, and comment HONESTLY! The fact she messed up is not the worst part. Yes I was a little upset about that. I am livid that Paula and american idol producers have refused to apologize to jason. The fact is a lot of the controversy would not have been nearly as bas if she had. It should have been done immediately. Then the fact is that when so many american idold viewers expressed anger over the fact she hadn't they should have been intelligent enough to know their b.s would response would just irritate people even more.

I would not have blamed Jason if he would have flipped her off and left the stage. He's more of a gentleman than I would have been a lady. I will not be watching American Idol ever again after this season. It is a popularity contest and I am convinced it is rigged, and the judges are leading the parade. I am 58 yoa and this is one of the cruelest, most insensitive things I have seen a judge do to a rising star, and then Paula and her group did not even have the graciousness to apologize to Jason Castro.

Just because there are dress rehearsals, it does't make the show not "live." We go listen to live performances all the time... plays, the orchestra, concerts..... all of which people consider to be live but don't they ALL include dress rehearsals too? Nothing wrong with a good dress rehearsal.

I'm sure Bob Marley would be very proud that Jason chose one of his songs and Bob Dylan feels honored that he chose one of his. Indie sounds?... No way. Marley and Dylan are legends and should never be mistaken for anything but. They are awesome. I would have liked to have heard Jason sing more folk rock and reggae and would have especially like to have heard him sing some of Ray LaMontagne's tunes. Hopefully, he'll make an album because I will definitely buy it. The Sixties was my time and folk rock was and is my music, so I love Jason's voice, which I think has great potential to make it big. Look at Kellie Pickler. Jason, good luck to you little brother hippy. God bless, and I hope the future holds only bright and beautiful things for you.
