Is Wicca surpassing Christianity?

Why are so many Christians joining Wicca? According to many figures, Wicca is the fastest growing religion in the United States percentage wise. With many people attracted to its communion with nature, the number of adherents is doubling about every 30 months, and the following grew from 8,000 in 1990 to 134,000 in 2001. A report also claims more than 50,000 women a year have deserted their congregations over the past two decades because they feel the church is not relevant to their lives.

I know a few Wicca ladies. From what they tell me it's more of a club of gals than a religion. It's not bad because thay love nature and stuff. They are like the good witch from the north. The ladies I know think being a Wicca is kind of cool and that's about as far as it goes with them.

Not unlike the kids who are in their church youth group just because their friends are.

With everything that's missing, you'd think it would have been easier just to delete the whole thread. Plus, a lot of those posts that are gone weren't objectionable.

Don't be ridiculous. Wicca has a long way to go before it even catches up to Christianity, which is a religion that counts one out of every three or so people as its adherents. Nonetheless, Wicca's a decent religion. Its theology is unorthodox and its ethics are simple (at least on the surface), but it is an ethical religion, albeit a freewheeling one.

Very true. However, I think the Church is alarmed at how quickly the Wiccan/Pagan faiths are growing, and how many Pagans (including Yours Truly) are former Christians.

Culture war happens. Unfortunately, this means that sooner or later someone's going to start whining in political areas about this, and Pagans might have to deal with that.(This could come in any form, such as finding some excuse to restrict usage of knives, to booking people for "loitering", to problems with planning boards citing "traffic" as a reason to deny land use as a coven prayer space, etc. Any excuse comes in handy to detractors. Just be aware of that.)

The churches are freaked out that they are quickly becomeing a minority. Not just in worship, but culturally.

Wiccian/Pagan beliefs are not the only thing in town. But a multitude of beliefs.

This plays havic with the 'cutlural' Christian. Those that don't attend, but because they are surrounded by Christian, that is the belief they identify with. And they will fight for, etc.

With the acceptence of the many different beliefs, that 'cutural' Christian no longer feels the urge to 'fight' for that belief.

It impacts political views, votes, etc. Hence, Actual churches loose power in the community.
