I commend your courage in speaking out on this subject. I deeply admire your courage and dedication to pave the way to a future that is respectful of individual sexual orientation. Best wishes to you, Sgt. Manzella, in your fight against the homophobes in the military. Thank you for your service to the men and women stationed in Iraq.

i think it is very wrong that the army discharged Manzella. yea maybe he did tell ppl that he was gay but y should the army care? if he cared about his country and fought and did his job, y should anyone care who he loves man or woman wen he gets home. ppl love eachother for who they r not wat they look like even if that means the same sex. my point is that the army should change wat they did and change the "dont ask, dont tell" rule. thanks

I'm sorry but mw wife and I don't understand why it was necessary to show video of Mr. Mazella and his boyfriend kissing and nuzzling. He admitted to being gay and that's good enough for us, we don't need video proof. We thought Ch.4 was above that sort of thing! Let the low quality news stations use that junk for the shock value they feel they need. It was completely unnecessary.

You sound like a southern white from 1968 pissed off that that Jim Crow laws were dismantled. Oh, and the world, its progressing, it always has and always will. You go forward when you expand rights and backwards when you deny them. Its actually pretty stupifyingly simple. Well good luck with your hate filled life.

... again.. and I do mean *with all due respect*. GUESS WHAT! I hate to break it to some of the homophobes out there.. but I GUARANTEE some of you work with a "homosexual's" on a daily basis (albeit the closeted version, due to fear of being ostracized by his/her co-workers). Famous words... "listen breeder, not every gay man wants to (have intercourse) with you". Despise? and Pity? Are you kidding me??? Why.. seriously.. because the thought of a "gay man" being able to perform ANY task at skill level (or BETTER) threatens your heterosexuality? Does it bother you that a gay person is BRAVE ENOUGH to fight for a freedom that the majority of american citizens don't have the gut (or even DESIRE) to do? It saddens me immensely, to know that I live in a world, that my job as a mother becomes harder than it needs to me.. because I have to work that much harder to teach my sons how to be REAL MEN...(love unconditionally... RESPECT unconditionally, etc) because unfortunately this world is still filled with homophobic, close-minded bigots (of all forms) who are too concerned with what goes on in another persons bedroom. Perhaps, if the above mentioned were more pro-active in their own bedrooms.... (hey, just a thought... some people have entire too much time on their hands)

The military is not the same as any job. If I were digging ditches I wouldn't care what the sexual orientation was of my coworkers. In the service you don't just work with a person but live with that person as well. It is a whole different culture. The service is not meant for everybody. If you are obese, deaf or blind you would not be able to join. Also it would be akin to having everything be coed. No more mens or womens showers or dorms. I am sure many people or parents would not be pleased if their sons or daughters, wives or husbands were sharing a shower or bedroom with someone of the opposite sex. It is just as simple as that.

What I want to know is WHY do they have to FLAUNT their sexuality to everyone? Coming OUT and saying something, what does it really gain them? People say they don't care what they do behind closed doors. Okay, keep it behind closed doors. If you are homosexual, don't flaunt it in front of the whole world on TV. That's their mistake, they are DEMANDING acceptance. It's ACCEPTED as long as it's not "shoved down our throats" so to speak. And that's what they are doing that is unacceptable.....

Let's take a look at 20th Century history. They said the armed forces would go to pieces when African Americans were allowed to serve....it didn't happen. They said the armed forces would go to pieces when women were allowed to serve....it didn't. Guess what? If gays and lesbians serve our country, the armed forces won't fall to pieces either. I often hear that gays and lesbians won't command the respect of their subordinates. Nonsense! I don't care if your Commanding Officer is a black Jewish lesbian in a wheelchair......you have been given an order, you carry it out. The last time I checked both gays and lesbians share the same freedoms and prosperity this country offers straight people. As such, they should be involved in the defense of our freedoms and liberties. I agree the Bible condemns homosexuality. However, although this country was founded on religious freedom, we maintain a secular government that does not discriminate on a person's particular religious belief or lack thereof. We are not a theocracy. If some officers decide to give up their commission because gas and lesbians actively participate in the armed forces, so be it. The armed forces lost officers when African Americans and women were integrated, but the armed forces of this country survived and have remained the best fighting force in the world.

It's never polite to make an announcement in public to tell people how you get your kicks below the waistline. However, if it comes up....it comes up. I worked at a company and was on a team. One of the women on my team was a knockout! Gawd! Well one of the other folks on the team learning she was not married (and made a ton of dough too) wanted to introduce his brother to her. She thanked him for considering her a such a quality person that he would introduce her to his brother but said she was gay. In a case such as that, telling people you're gay is pertinent to the conversation at hand. However, to go to the office and announce the fact ....well, that's not a good thing. My cousin said it best "I won't make big deal of the fact that I'm gay if you won't either".

Good bye you are out the closet and now you are out of the military. Maybe you can go around and be on talk shows and sit there with your boyfriend and cry about how bad you have it. YOU knew the rules and you did not follow them so they kicked you out. Stay behind closed doors and no one would have said a thing.
