I am for sex offender registration, but, it goes to far. I've seen people put on that list for indecent exposure.
I believe it should only cover--rape and pedophilia

I think I would have to agree with you. I am all for sex offender registration, but I don't think somebody should have to be put on the registration just because they sneezed and their pecker fell out.

may not be worth much

my 2c

there are a lot of people that are listed for crappy reasons-
I know this sounds like BS, but like if you had a bad bladder and went far off the path away from people to relieve yourself and just so happen a police officer spotted you or some one else they would be able to get you for indecent exposure and you would have to register even with no other history

I know that it is impossible to know completely the truth of events, but this system has proved to fail.

People, not just men because the sick azz mom's that aid this crap,
the people that commit a violent sexual act, and this should be better defined, should be chemically castrated, I mean it

they will never get better, they will never be cured of there sick fantasy, protect our children, and fix our future, get rid of these sick people

and than for the victims, they will be heading down the same path...
our kids that have fallen to this will be likely to pass it on...
I wish it would stop at one person, but humans are not ever to be trusted.

I'm going to agree. I don't think you should have to register as an offender if you got drunk and peed in a parking lot. That's crazy! But touch a child or rape someone.....You betcha!

There are obviously some other categories to consider, but essentially you ain't just whistlin' dixie. Some of the "requirements" to make it on the list are insanely unjust.

I have to wonder with everyone checking where sex offenders live and now work. What may we be creating? Will medical facilities start keeping registered sex offenders with medical problems out of thier hospitals and clinics because they have child pts there at the time? People already protest where they live and now I imagine where they are working. I guess the only jobs they will be able to get is picking up aluminum cans. Oh,maybe not because I would think most of those cans are in parks where children play and they can't go there either.

The police are right. It's the ones that don't register where they live and work people need to be concerned about. If they don't have jobs, then they just sit at home and eventually are back doing what got them thrown in jail in the first place.

-I knew someone that was on the registery, he remained on probation and was registered without an address, everyone knew that he was an offender, but because he was houseless (as home is what you make of it) he was able to get away with not listing himself- scary

Yes, "Sex crimes create a lot of fear and receive a lot of attention." However, the vast majority of that fear has been created by myths, lies and hysteria by the news media and politicians for ratings and votes.
The truth of the matter is that sex offenders do have a VERY LOW recidivist rate. Especially when compared with other crimes.

http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/press/rsorp9...

Highlights include the following:

* Released prisoners with the highest rearrest rates were robbers (70.2%), burglars (74.0%), larcenists (74.6%), motor vehicle thieves (78.8%), those in prison for possessing or selling stolen property (77.4%), and those in prison for possessing, using, or selling illegal weapons (70.2%).
* Within 3 years, 2.5% of released rapists were arrested for another rape, and 1.2% of those who had served time for homicide were arrested for homicide.
* The 272,111 offenders discharged in 1994 had accumulated 4.1 million arrest charges before their most recent imprisonment and another 744,000 charges within 3 years of release.

If society is ever going to be able to create laws that actually work, the state legislature is going to have to bring in the experts. This, they have failed to do, and the effects of that are laws that actually ENDANGER children and society.

78% on Tier III. Teens for consensual sex. See www.rickyslife.com . But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Individuals who's crimes were 10-20 or more years non-aggravated, non habitual are registered on tier three. As Gus Blackwell, Republican Majority Whip, OK., is fond of saying, "The PREDATORS are hiding in the registry" He is absolutely correct. One cannot know who that small minority that may re-offend is. Here is a hint. Those who DID NOT KNOW their victim. The VIOLENT rapist and the REPEAT offender.

What we have now are laws that endanger children and all of society. The laws protect no one they are nothing but ineffective "feel good" laws" passed by politicians without consulting experts in the field to see what works and what doesn't work.

I have quite a few articles on my website that addresses these issues as well as studies by recognized experts.

I don't believe people need to be concerned with a sex offender painting their house. He'll probably do a better job as he needs the money to pay his rent or mortgage. Feed his children and be stable. When you run them out of their home, their job, starve their children what can you expect?? Usually, they may resort to stealing to keep a roof over their head and food in their stomach. The basic necessities of life when denied to anyone will result in desperation.

Randy Lopp, treatment subcommittee chairman of the Oklahoma Sex Offender Management Team says it best,''Most people who know anything about this are frustrated. It is just not helpful -- the laws as they are now.''

''I think if the general public UNDERSTOOD THE RESEARCH, they would be willing to back the legislators to change the laws to make more sense and to protect children, because the laws as they are written are not protecting children," he said. "They are doing more harm than good.''

No Way! If you're willing to expose yourself, there is no telling what else you'll be willing to do... especially if you can get away with exposing yourself...why not take it a step further?

If you have a bladder problem...and any decency at all...you know how to plan bathroom breaks or purchase and wear depends, grown up diapers. No excuses for indecent exposure.

If you're going to get drunk and you can't handle yourself in public...stay home...or here's a new idea...don't get drunk and loose control of yourself and your common sense...even though I don't think yo have any based upon your comment.

So let's create a witch hunt. I do NOT condone their actions and do think the ones that are the worst offenders (rape or crimes against children) should certainly be monitored and monitored closely but if you take it to this degree for ALL "sex" crimes including indecent exposure, then we run the risk of making it even worse when it comes to monitoring them. There are just too many and if we start poking our noses into the jobs held by the lesser offenses then it could very well cost them their jobs. Do we really want them to be unemployed? I would think a full time job would make it a little easier to keep track of them.

Yes -- this is a big problem and our children must remain safe. We have an offender living in our mid-town neighborhood. I am also the parent of a young child. I have spoken to the gentleman in question, and know of his specific offence. It was not violent, lurid or even horribly awefull. I also know the attorney quite well... His offence was not lurid, awefull or violent agaist children -- or even another person... Unfortunately these two folks SHOULD NOT be labeled or registered as offenders... The real crime here is convicting folks who do not rape, or perpetrate against other people.... This sex-offender law will lump the stupid -- and black out drunks - who urinate in a bush with the TRULY -- and TRUE DEVIATES of society.... This is a crime!!
