This is a nice thing but ya know You never know who is on the inside taking the money for them selves. So I have my doubts about this. So many folks are talking from the poor.

I won't be helping them at all. I called them to see about getting assistance for my disabled father who has limited income from SSI, to get his gas turned on & they said we have no funds, call back on the first. I did and they said we have no funds, they tell you to call 211, so I did and they can't help. So I will save my donation money for my father not the Salvation Army!

Tara please talk to St. Catherine's School/Church in Southwest Tulsa off of 25th St. And also St. Mary's Church somewhere around CCs at 51st & Peoria. Have you asked DHS about LIHEAP? And Victory Christian Center. There is help out there but I know it is hard to get.

This is terrible! I hope you take some of the advice people on here have offered and contact some other places. Hopefully they'll be able to help.

Try talking to your local churches, they usually help people out a lot that can't do for themselves. I would definitely talk to churches or your home church before you contact the gas company, because more than likely, the gas company won't do too much. I'm sorry to hear the salvation army didn't help or even have any answers for you.

Oh...and another thing on this...these people aren't just "volunteering", I've heard they get paid above minimum wage, so when you feel grateful for these people freezing their booties off ringing that little bell, most of them are getting paid for it, they aren't just doing it out of the kindness of their little hearts...

The Salvation Army does a great job feeding and housing the homeless. Some of the homeless are people who should be institutioalized but instead have been turned out on the streets with no one to over see them and they (thankfully) end up at the SA shelter. Most of these do not have the mental capacity to take care of them selves. It is true though that some of the "winos" do take advantage of the system, but for the most part the people who need and want the help gets help. Anyone who wants to volunteer should go to the shelter at 102 N Denver, and help in the kitchen or donate food to the kitchen. You will see kids there that will absolutely tear your heart out. Thye need all of the help you can give them.

I saw it, but I was wondering how can they claim it as a secret if they have cameras following them arround? Also, why do they have to make a show about millionaires donating money?

102 N. Denver? Never been that way, but I'd like to donate to a shleter. I have some clothes and shoes, stuff like that I was getting rid of. I usually drop it off in the Salvation Red Bins, but I thought Id physically take it somewhere this time.
