I teach in north tulsa and some of our problem is the fact that neither our adminstration nor the district want to suspend and punish students because it means lost money. The district receives money from the federal government, a certain amount per child per day. When you suspend a kid for fighting the district looses money and therefore the school looses money. We have been told that no students will be sent home or suspended regardless of the situation...they could injure a teacher and there is very slim chance that they would be suspended.

I have found and it is true (I think) many girls fight a lot...mostly it is over boys...the girl that was stabbed and killed it was over a boy... They will fight and fight almost to the death over a boy they want...

if the schools won't do anything about such violence because they will loose money, then if i were you i would pack up and move on to a school district actually cares about its teachers. i would never put up with things like that. and tulsa public schools wonder why all they are getting anymore is violent criminals and mexicans and the more respectable and honest students find other places to go to school. i know my children will never go to a tulsa public high school, even if i have to rent an apartment in owasso, collinsville or wherever is nicer and safer, i would pay the extra money just to be able to keep my kids safe. |

what the news fail to report is the polices daughter threw the first punch and we have a voice mail message that his wife left on my daughters answering machine threatening to fight my daughter. It doesn't mention that I spoke with the mother the day before and asked her to talk to her child and i will do the same with mine. She continued say that she and her daughter were going to beat up my child. They keep trying to make her out to be a victim. Only one of my daughters had a fight with her they are lying about the other one. This is not the first time that this lil girl has had a fight and charges were brought against the other child. Did they mention that tulsa police and the service center allowed her father to confront my children all without notifying me? I wasnt notified of any thing until they were in juvinile.

It's not the schools, the parents bear the brunt of this responsibility. And a society who has given up and given in to the lowest common denominator.
Sad. |

WOW...these ladies that fight give us a bad name! Fighting is not lady-like, it's not cute, and what exactly does it solve, only getting yourself arrested and charges brought against you. Maybe these parents need to start teaching their young girls what it's like to be a lady, and actually have some class!

1 The schools use to say the Lord's prayer at the beginning of everyday... they took the 10 commandments out of the schools...they took prayer out of the school...parents should play a role in teaching their kids right from wrong...but most kids are taught what the parents want ... not necessarily the truth...and they are also taught that they can get birth control without a parents permission... which also... tears down that communication etc between parent and child... I blame the schools a lot for making kids feel they are being abused when they really aren't etc... I could go on for an hour about this ...Schools are responsible for keeping order...they do not ...in most schools...there is fights... etc...kids are allowed to bully... and the bully gets to stay in school and the other one kicked out... well, time to hush.. but you get the picture |

oh yeah throw some baby oil out there or some jello. |

1 It's one thing to have prayer in school, but another to have it at home. If you don't have it at home...then what's the point? Are you trying to say with your post that the school is the one responsible for these fights happening? It's the way you raise your child that makes them do the things they do most of the time. NOT the schools. |

1 My parents always always told me that girls fighting was not lady-like and it would make me look like a low life. I have never been in a physical altercation in my life. I don't even smoke in public because it doesn't look good when a woman lights up and smokes. It really does look like a low life. I am just a low life in hiding..LOL. |

1 We'll have to agree to disagree. I don't believe in being my childs "friend". I've already raised two kids and they are active, productive, well educated (college) adults now. My daughter is a mother and a wife with her own children and family to raise. I didn't become "friends" until they were out of school making their own decisions. That doesn't make me a monster. I had rules, they followed. They were taught right from wrong and what punishment is if they disobeyed. They did not receive every little trinket out in the market just because another kid had it...they worked from the time they were 15 years old and still were honor roll students / football captain and one graduated valedictorian and senior class president. NO... I was never their friend...but I WAS / and still am...their Mother and their very biggest fan...I also did this as a single parent. I also do not believe it is the school responsiblity to babysit our children. If they are raised properly, this wouldn't be an issue except for a "few" which...heck, even The Little Raschels fought. School is to learn...teachers need to be able to teach...not "babysit" these kids. Somewhere along the road, people have lost sight of what a schools responsibility is about. |

Agree Kim. There is a zero tolerance at every school. This was a premeditated assult and battery. I can't understand the thought process of someone so young believing this to be acceptable way to handle "anything"....... sad really. |
