The worst riots in United States history with respect to lives lost took place during the Civil War when immigrant factory workers forcibly resisted the federal government's military draft, the New York Draft Riots. These riots were graphically and inaccurately depicted in the movie Gangs of New York. In the 20th century, the 1992 Los Angeles riots triggered by the Rodney King Trial were regarded as the worst in recent U.S. history with deaths estimated at 54 people and nearly a billion dollars in damage caused. The 1968 Democratic National Convention, however, saw the most well-remembered riots in recent US history and were a strong influence towards the eventual American withdrawal from Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam War. The 2000 Democratic National Convention protest activity made headlines, including the Lakers riot. Also notable were riots in response to the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. across numerous American cities, as well as the recent anarchist and anti-globalization riots of the last decade such as the Seattle protests of the WTO Ministerial Conference of 1999 and the 2005 Toledo Riot in Toledo, Ohio.

White men have never picked cotton behind a bullwhip and a gun,the scars of racism go deeper than Tulsa,I wasnt born yet,but I still feel shame for how my white race treated African Americans.

I had ancestors that suffered the trail of tears...should I go to congress and demand retribution?

People wanting their 15 minutes of fame are the ones that keep playing this up. Yeah it was tragic, but come on people! From what I understand, there's less than 4 survivors still alive! If money is to be rewarded it should be to THEM, not the money hungry family members that see their elderly jewel as a cash cow!

My mother has handed down to me approximately 20 original photos taken just days after the riot. It was hard to fathom such damage and destruction.

If ANYONE looks far enough into the past, they will see where their ancestors were treated terribly. English, Irish, Chinese
etc. None of those sued. If they tried, they would be laughed out of court.

I was just waiting for something like this to be said. Wouldn't you know it. The white people are always going to be the bad ones even though I hear more racist remarks from anyone I hear are from anyone other than white people. NOW! You tell me who is the most racist? Black people hate white people and always will and will always use "racism" to get there own way. Sorry but this is just the way I feel. They cak call each other the "N" word but nodody else ever must do so. Well, if it is that horrible to hear then why even refer to each other as that? I think that it is nasty when you call each other that. It is horrible!

To poster Walter Bales: I'd be interested in seeing the photos you mention. NewsOn6.com has something called YouNews where you can upload photos - it would be cool if you could give it a try.

My reaction to the Race Riots most of my life has also been "I don't want to hear about it," I guess cause it's such a scar on the city's past and so hard to relate to today. BUT I don't think we're served well by trying to brush it under the rug. It's a historically significant event.

Hi, I didn't see the reply function at first so I'll repeat part of my post: It would be interesting to see these photos if you could post them on YouNewsTV, part of this site. Thanks!

The lawsuit is in place because even though it was 87 years ago, Tulsa was still an established city at that time. The Tulsa race riot was fueled by racism and the same thing that happened then could happen today. The Tulsa race riot is why north tulsa is what it is today. The losses of 1921 was past down to the next generations.

Your comments are somewhat naive.

Ever hear of sharecroppers? Prison work farms?(lots of whites held those positions, also)

A lot of the "racism" in Tulsa is because it continues to be stoked by 1) the media 2) the "blame it all on the white man" liberals & 3) People who contend that the black population at the time was "innocent".

Both sides had their parts to play

I wasn't born yet either. I never owned a slave. I won't vote for/allow 1 red cent for "reparations". I'm still witing for the black community to come forth & acknowledge what parts some of them played in the melee.

All "those" people keep saying is that its not about the money, they just want "recognition" or an official "apology". bs. they've gotten those.

It's about the money.

"Black Wall Street" Yeah....right.

You should know by now my friend; "they" won't be bothered by the truth. It's not what "they" want to hear.

I guess we could all sue England for what their king did to us... The RIGHT thing to do is 'let it go'!!!!!!! We've ALL been done wrong at some point in history, but, the handouts have to stop.
If not, then every victim of crime should have the right to sue the relatives of the perpetrator.
Best advice: Let it go!!

you said:

"The losses of 1921 was past down to the next generations." Yes, & they've held onto it as a "cherished" memory of how they were wronged & use it as a crutch.

It appears to me that we should carry this to the full extent. Yes, pay them and then after that the US should demand losses from the British for all the wars fought on our soil when we tried to gain independence from them. I'd say each living US citizen should get 1 Million dollars. That would settle with them and help the economy as well. Get real!!! How far back do you want to go to collect money for greedy people that can't understand that this is a part of history and not a ticket to riches.

From every bit of history that I read about the riot, the blacks brought it All on them selves, started out with a black kid accosting a white woman, he was put in jail, than the blacks decided to break him out of jail and that was what caused the riot, the blacks were even fighting the military, HOW STUPID CAN YOU GET!! I do not see how I could be held accountable for riot, my ancestors was not even in this country at that, am sure a lot of other people was not here than either... Just one more way I feel that some people are trying to get something for nothing nearly a century later....Any way that is my feelings....
