Wow...that pretty much sums it up. Your comment made me think about a Reba McIntire song "If I had only known". Love that song. It's from the move 8 seconds about Lane Frost.

For all the families and friends...you're in my prayers and I'm so sorry for your loss.

I am the neice of the man that was killed in the accident. For those of you sending prayers, thank you...both families are in need of them. For those who are arguing about details....shame on you. There are two families in need of love, support and prayer and who have experienced great tragedy today. Where has our decency gone when something of this magnitude happens and we focus on who is to blame rather than the fact that human life has been lost? Regardless of who was at fault, I lost my uncle today. His wife lost her husband and his children lost their father. My grandparents lost their son and my aunts/uncles lost their brother. Put things in perspective. Those of you who think you know what happened....YOU WEREN'T THERE. Prayer is welcome...blaming is not.
Well said my friend... I'm sorry for your loss, and my prayers are with your family, and also for the man that was injured in the crash. God bless both families. This was very tragic

I wasnt going to post on here but all the craziness about who and what happened has forced me to. First i would like to say my sympathey goes out to the family of the man killed. Second OHP reported that Ryan said he was tiered when they got to him in his car on the scene first of all ive never been in a wreck but can only imagine the trauma your body is going thru and it has no idea what happened. If u know u are going to fall asleep do u people really think that hes just going to keep driving. So if he fell asleep is he really gonna know that right away probably not... I think everyone should look at the fact that all this was said before any investigating took place and where is the truck drivers voice he should be able to clear all this up??? I know what i have heard from people close to ryan about what happened but as far as family members writing telling others to read the police report....HAVE YOU??? WHERE YOU THERE??? Like what has already been said there were 2 victims not just 1 so please keep that in mind!!!!
I was knocked un concious in an accident. I remember coming to several times betweent the time the firement got there and the time i woke in the emergency room. I was afraid because I have never in my life experienced being that tired. I could not stay awake and thought that I was dying. I even remember asking the ambulance guy if he would pray with me. So yea I can See Ryan saying he was tired.

think toward the 'concept' of helping..God Bless.

Generally speaking - not in reference to this accident.
This road could be better -- agreed. But I travel this road Mon. thru Fri. morning from the port to 169 at 4:45am. The road itself is not what I'm on guard about - too many drivers are just careless and over aggressive. For example: I noticed this accident ahead of me this morning and began shutting down, as I did, the person behind me whipped out and passed me and 2 others before he/she realized there was an accident in front of them. They barely got stopped in time. I have been passed MANY times when it was not safe to do so, and I have had to practically stop for others passing toward me in the oncoming flow.
Unsafe driving is really the reason for the bad record on this stretch of road. Everybody is headed to work and some think passing 2 or 3 cars in a line of traffic a half mile long will actually make a difference.
I would vote for 4 lanes to the port. I think that would help. At least we slower, more cautious drivers would have a lane to hide in.
b-force i couldnt agree with you more ive been ran off the road or forced to stop 2 many times to mention people have no regard 4 their own safety much less the lives of others that do 4 lanes would be a blessing to say the least

I don't think anyone here is trying to intentionally blame one driver or the other. The posters are simply trying to piece together what happened in this tragedy...to make sense of it somehow. Neither driver got in their vehicles intending to harm themselves or someone else. As for the man who commented on the driver going to sleep...my husband gets up every morning and three and is at work by four. He's done this for years and is more awake at four in the morning than most are at eight or nine. You can't assume by the time that the driver fell asleep. The facts will be pieced together eventually but for now, it's just alot of posters throwing out bits and pieces of what they saw or heard. Don't take these comments personally. My prayers and condolences to your family for you loss.

This has got to be the most rediculous thing to say right now. Were you there in the car with the man? NO! And YES, it WAS an accident...he did not get in his car today planning on killing the man. I am SURE you have done something stupid behind the wheel of a car in your lifetime and if you try to say otherwise, you are full of S***.
Selfishness and lack of good judgement? Obviously you don't have very good judgement to come on here and say something so horrible about someone who accidently ruined the lives of another family, and possibly his own. Also I agree...when you have to be at work (if this is the case) you can't just call your boss and tell him that you are too tired to make it in today. Supporting a family is something that can't be taken as a joke, especially right now when prices of everything are going up.
Consider what you are going to say, before you say it. That way, next time...you don't come off as an idiot as* hole who is hateful and SELFISH for not thinking of how your comments can affect others.
It had nothing to do with speeding...
AND it wasn't and "accident"..it was a collision caused by a person who should not have been behind the wheel. They were obviously too tired yet decided to get behind the wheel and in turn fell asleep while driving and ended up killing an innocent person because of their selfishness and lack of good judgement.
Please..if you are too tired DON'T get behind the wheel of a car....instead get some rest THEN go to your destination.
Sleeping while behind the wheel is getting to be a rather scary epidemic
It is amazing to me the way that what someone says can be misconstrude. I am the best friend of the driver of the Mustang. The driver told me that the highway patrolman asked him how he was and he replied that he felt "a little sleepy". This is not uncommon after being hit in the head hard enough to split your nose into 3 pieces.
It just baffles me that everyone has ran with that one comment and tried so hard to make that the entire reason for the crash.
Something does need to be done about 46th street north between 169 and the port. We have had 3 people that work with us in serious car wrecks in the last 7 weeks. These were all on that same stretch of road.

After reading some of these comments, B-Force is the closest to what actually happened. I am a close friend of the kid that's fighting for his life, another friend that's at the hospital with him said that he believed he fell asleep because 1 minute he was moving and the next he seen flashing lights. I myself have been in accidents like that to where I thought I fell asleep because I couldn't remember anything. So those who judge or act like they know should honestly just keep it to themselves.
"...fighting for his life,"? Not so much.

The OHP report said it was the Mustang driver who fell asleep at the wheel and hit the semi then hit the other car head on killing the driver. I would think they would be more qualified to determine the cause of the accident than the so-called eye witnesses who have yet to be named.

Are you telling us that you read the accident report? Does it really matter who was at fault? 2 families are in pain and you want to place blame. I pray for the families of both these men and pray that you can move past this who's at fault thing also.

I did see the accident report.....And, I was not the one placing blame. Just defending remarks that were placing blame. I know all too well how much pain the Field family is in and agree that both families need our prayers.

We must not forget the familes of the victims. My husband works out at the port and this is very true. Some wife got a kiss goodbye for the last time. And kids could've said goodbye to there dad for the last time. Enjoy every day and every moment we never know when it will be our last.
<quoted text>
I was the wife who was kissed for the last time. The driver of the Mustang was at fault. The highway patrol told me that he was still conscious when they arrived at the scene and he told them he had fallen asleep and caused the accident. He left behind three grown children and a daughter who is still at home. Her 18th birthday was yesterday. What to celebrate? Someone was too tired to drive, did it anyway and killed her father. I have read the posts and people are saying how do they know he fell asleep. They know he fell asleep because HE TOLD THE HIGHWAY PATROL THAT HE HAD!

Ron - Thank you so much for posting. You are right. Paul did not pass cars - especially on port road. He knew how dangerous that stretch of road is. So I know he was not trying to pass the semi. Also, the highway patrol reconstructed the scene and said that the other driver was at fault.

I am the wife of the man who was killed. So many of you are saying it was his fault. If it was his fault, why is Ryan's insurance company paying for Paul's car? Why are they paying the ambulance bill that I received from them taking my husband to the funeral home? Why are they paying the wrecker bill? Why are they paying me the insurance for my husband's death? The reason - and the ONLY reason they are doing this - is because Ryan was at fault in this accident. I have also read the police report. It lists my husband as the innocent driver. I do not wish Ryan to be dead. He will have to live with this for the rest of his life. I just wish people who did not know what they are talking about would keep quiet. It doesn't help anyone.
