I was at the "public hearing" today. There were a lot of people at the "public hearing", we were all outside trying to figure out what was going on inside. Then what seemed to be a long debate to include the citizens of the affected neighborhoods, someone opened a side door so we all could strain our ears and eyes over and around another trying to find out what was going to happen to our homes and rights. There was a rumor that maybe another meeting that could accompany more that thirty people, though I couldn't tell I was outside with the rest.

So what ever happened to our "Elected Officials" representing the people who elected them. Our city councelors, Mayer and other officials have lost all sight of what the people want. I say fire them all.

It's a sad day for our neighborhood!!! Those that we elected to speak up for our best interests have failed. I would suggest that if you are frustrated by this action to contact both Eric Gomez and Kathy Taylor and let them know how you feel. I know that I will. Our city government is so lame!!!

Are they now going to move the other shelters from downtown?

I think the construction of the facility is a complete disgrace to the area and will completely disintegrate the area and the so-called revitalization of the North Tulsa area. Why move a facility such as this to a residential area in which children, elderly and well established business owners live? The current shelter is located in an area that is a commercial area, thus, making the local area not as vulnerable to transient people. Yes, what happened to our "ELECTED" officials? Perhaps they have forgotten the roots of Tulsa and feel that this is a good thing? Well, I say why don't we build it in the middle of Jenks or the upper-crust area and let's just see how they squirm in their chairs? Oh my, how the rules would change at that point!!! Many people have lived in this area for years and will be more than ever vulnerable to crime and low-life people filtering and loitering about. BOOOO on you city officials!!!!

Exactly the reason I didn't go, it was already a done deal. Seems the recently elected officials have already forgotten who elected them & why. I can guarantee you the first time some "homeless" person comes up to be begging change I'll introduce him to Mr. Glock... I ain't having it. I'm mad as H E LL & I ain't taking it no more!

I agree "Mr. Glock". Perhaps more of your attitude around our area will prohibit loitering and people who are bums. It is really going to lower the property values and our area in general. Who wants to have a landmark by "exit the expressway by the mental health / homeless facility". NO ONE!!!

I believe the main reason is because they are trying to move the shelters from downtown. They want the area aroung the arena to look good, and this may just be the beginning. You watch, Salvation Army, and John 3:16 may be next...

Isn't the downtown shelter considered "housing"? If so, why are so many people out wandering around? If it is HOUSING than shouldn't people be in their house at night? Just a bad idea - should move the "shelter/housing" to a non-residential area. Even apartment dwellers are often in their "houses" at night, not out wandering around and trying to get a freebie. I am all for helping the people who are down on their luck, but often people who are out for freebies are just bums and prey on vulnerable established people who have worked very hard all their lives for what they have and to protect what they have. All people in our area are wanting to do is take care of what they have and not be suseptible to more crime and low-life people.

you know what, screw the homeless! most of them are fully capable of working. I wish that we would just round them up for a mass extermination like the vermin they are, myself. they are about as much good as the thugs out even further north.

Let's see, we can not take care of our city streets but we can build a new baseball stadium and a new homeless shelter AND a new arena? Hmmmmm, I think our City Councilors are wacked and should go to work in the homeless shelter. Let's see how they would like it if they had to live a regular lifestyle and put up with a new "facility" within a mile or two of their house? Let's see, doesn't the mayor have a very lush and lavish house? Why don't we build it near her house? I think "Smart One" from Sand Springs is on to something. God forbid if we have a homeless shelter near our multi-million dollar new arena. Geez, our homeless and mentally ill people would be able to make so much more money down there - there are more people! I thought we were looking out for their best interest!! HA HA

What about the people out there who have just fallen on hard times and have no other place to go? Not every homeless person is trying to be lazy and thugs. I for one was homeless for several weeks at one point in time after I was left by my husband with my newborn baby and wasn't working yet. Did I deserve to be exterminated?

I would have to disagree with your comment of "Why do people judge the homeless." Have you seen what the area around the Daycenter and Salvation Army looks like. Drive by these locations in the afternoon and you will see garbage piled up and people loitering on the street corners. For every homeowner in the area of the new proposed shelter, be prepared for an increase in litter and panhandling. I don't believe this was cause the property values to increase in this area.

And I am sure "Homeless in Sand Springs" you also agreed with Bill Clinton about "I did not have sexual relations with that girl". Enough said about this topic - it is WRONG to put it in a RESIDENTIAL area, period.
