I fail to see how reading a book can harm a person. Who is Mrs. Edna Harden? Is this book about her? Is this book fiction? Is it fiction based upon a true story. Come clean about WHY you don't want us to read it...otherwise, curiosity will get the better of us.

I don't think I know a Mrs. Harden. "The Laptop" isn't about Mrs. Harden. It’s a fictional work; not bases upon a true story. While I was writing the story, there were a number of times when I tried to abandon it, but it seemed to have a hold on me.
After it was published, I found out that a friend who had purchased a copy committed suicide. He shot himself in the head and was found on the floor with my book under his body. There was no suicide note left behind. Then, about a month later, it came to my attention that a young woman had fallen to her death from the roof of a 30 story building in Los Angeles, a copy of my book clutched in her hand. Other inexplicable things have happened to people that have purchased my book. I don’t understand what the ramifications are surrounding the story, but I’m concerned that others could be somehow unduly influenced by the connection. I would rather not make a penny off the story than have anyone hurt because of it. John said in his post that it doesn’t bother him, but realizing that he travels with a rough group of Harley owners doesn’t mean he’s impervious to bad luck, if you can call it that. Daniel |

Daniel: While I understand your consternation, I am surprised that you attach any natural or supernatural significance to what happened to the two unfortunate individuals you mentioned. After all, think about how many other people have read your book, but are still just fine. Relax, Friend. Neither you nor your book are responsible, for the demise, of the two individuals you mentioned. Even if the book played some part (WHICH I DOUBT), it would still not be your fault nor the fault of your book.

Well Daniel, thats why i said i wasnt worried about a dam thing. See? I knew what you was getting at, so i took it opon myself to set things up that if anything happens to me for buying, reading, or thinking about your book. you will be the one the book gets not me. I dont believe in any of that voo doo hoochie coo bullshit to start with, but in a way i hope you do.

John, Sometimes you are so "non compos mentis". Daniel, Ignore John. And, ignore us both when we are "fussing" with one another. I just like bickering with him. He owes me a teddy and won't pay up. |
|
|
LOL I got your teddy, come get it. on your way stop and get me a dew and a snickers bar. I'll fill the hot tub, you bring the bubble bath. Then you can have yer teddy. NON COMPOS MENTIS - These words signify not of sound mind, memory, or understanding. This is a generic term, and includes all the species of madness, whether it arise from, 1, idiocy; 2, sickness 3, lunacy or 4, drunkenness.
1,2,3 dont count but 4 could have something to do with it. I love my margurita's and lime chips. |

ROTFL...I'm glad you have a dictionary. |

Well, I kind of understand where John's coming from. He was a Marine during the Vietnam conflict and they had it rough. I was aboard an Aircraft Carrier at that time, USS Coral Sea, Fighter Squadron VF-151, enjoying clean, dry beds and hot meals, so in contrast, I had it made. The Marines had to harden themselves to the realities of the battle field, sloshing through the monsoon mud, eating terrible tasting meals out of cans and trying to keep from getting killed. I have great regard for our men and women in the military, especially for the Marines. Thanks John for your great service to our country. I hope you’ll come to my book signing so I can personally thank you, shake your hand and sign your book.

I didn't serve, but I had a boyfriend & a "friend-friend" who died over there. Both were in the Army and died in combat. I still have difficulty, sometimes, coming to grips with their deaths. It seemed then, and seems now, that it was such a waste.
During part of the VietNam era, I worked in a topless bar, in California. Navy personnel, from a nearby naval hospital, would bring in young men, who weren't old enough to drink. But all were amputees...I served them alcohol. I suppose it wasn't right and it was certainly illegal, but I felt that if they were old enough to sacrifice a limb and face death, then they should be able to come back home and drink a damn beer.(I wasn't old enough to be working in there myself, so it would have been a "double-whammy" if I'd gotten caught. Ha. Ha.) |

We all do things we shouldn't do and get through things that we're compelled to do in live. The hard things make us better because of it and the unpleasant things can make us bitter if we let them. It's all part of living and it's not so much what we've done, but what we've learned by doing them. I've made a lot of mistakes in life, but I learned a lot from them. We never learn much from our successes, but only from our trials.

My book signing went well in Muskogee. Now I hope to schedule one in Tulsa. Do any of you nice folks out there have a suggestion for which book store I should try to get set up with?
Thanks, Daniel Parks www.danielparks.com |

Borders. There are 2 location from which to choose. One on 21st St. and one at Yale & 71st St. |
|
|
They won't throw me out will they? I talked to B & N today and will meet with the manager next week. Nothings for sure, but may have one there. Then I'll hit Borders.
Thanks OS |
|
Let me know if you hit Borders. |
|
|
I will. Thanks for your support.
Daniel |
|
If I absolutely have to, I will go to B & N. I live on the westside and hate going to the eastside, which is why I prefer Borders. |
|
|
Maybe I can get a Borders signing set up. I'll let you know.
Thanks again. Daniel |
