I'll be at the Hastings Book Store in Muscogee on Saturday, May 10th, from 1 'til 5 pm to sell and sign three of my books, "Gold River Canyon's Dead," "Tales and Doggerel of a Traveling Man," and "The Laptop; Cyber Murders."
If you drop by, plan to pull us a chair and chat for a while. I'd like to get to know you. Perhaps there's a story in your life that needs to be told. I hope to see you there! Daniel Parks www.danielparks.com |

Would it be a good idea if I spelled Muskogee correctly?

Hmmm. Do you plan on any book signings in Tulsa?

I do plan on doing some book signings in Tulsa. Do you have a favorite book store to recommend?

I'm fond of Borders. It is the easiest to get to and has convenient parking. There are 2 locations, in Tulsa, and I usually go to the one at 8015 S. Yale as it is the most convenient for me. |

Thanks for your advice. I'll see if I can schedule a book signing there in the near future.
Have a great day, Daniel |

In the meantime, I think I will check out your books. I'm fond of historical fiction. My favorite type is historical fiction about American Indians (like "The People Of ..." series) or historical fiction about European Royals. Your books sound interesting though so I will check them out. |

You'll probably never have an author tell you not to buy one of his or her books, but I strongly advise against "The Laptop; Cyber Murders." It's a dreadful tale of gore, and I don't mean Al Gore.
Hastings Book Store in Muskogee will be hosting a book signing on Saturday, May 10th, from 1 P.M.‘til 5 P.M. with Daniel Parks, featuring three of his books, "Gold River Canyon’s Dead," "Tales and Doggerel of a Traveling Man," and "The Laptop; Cyber Murders." Although Mr. Parks is a transplant from his growing up years in San Diego, California, he now claims bonafide citizenship in Wagoner, Oklahoma making him a true Okie from... well, just a little bit north of Muskogee. When diagnosed with a presumably fatal liver condition in 1999, he could have put his life on hold while he pondered the proverbial question,“what do you do if you only have a few years to live?” but instead moved on and began a new career as a writer of fictional works. His first book, "Gold River Canyon’s Dead," a story about three middle-aged people caught up in a drama of wilderness exploration in the Western Rockies is a reflection of the turning point in his own life. While Daniel’s life changes were due to his sudden illness, the heros of Gold River Canyon realized they’d accomplished very little in their time on earth. Determined to do something of significance, they banded together with a widowed business woman in search of a long lost nineteenth century mining town high up in the Flat Tops Wilderness of the Colorado Rockies. In their journey into the unknown, the trio endured the harsh realities of high mountain winters and the ever present threat of a strange animal or being that stalked their every move. You’ll find Daniel’s story of discovery, danger, and death a riveting tale of resolve. Mr. Parks has since continued on in his quest to perfect his story telling skills as he compiled a book of his short stories, poetry, songs, and articles entitled, Tales and Doggerel of a Traveling Man, taken from the years he and his family traveled and lived in a number of diverse locations in the United States. His latest book, The Laptop; Cyber Murders, is an experiment with a despicable tale of greed, anger, hate and savage brutality carried out by a strange laptop computer that possesses exceptionally troubling artificial intelligence. The story itself is a forbidding and somewhat grievous tale, but has a compulsive nature about it as if Mr. Parks had been seized by the power of the Laptop and compelled to chronicle its evil criminations. If you have a desire to meet a local author that may be on his way to great things, come by Hastings Book Store in Muskogee on May 10th for a chat with Daniel. He’d like to visit with you for a while and hear your story, even if, or maybe, especially if it’s a bit bizarre and strange. While you’re there, you’ll receive a free copy of his CD that contains his songs and a sample of his work, "Writing in the Dark; The Night of Absolution," from a book due out this summer entitled, "Short Stories for the Long Haul." Don’t miss this opportunity to meet Daniel. You may just find it to be a rewarding experience. |

So, you don't recommend: "The Laptop; Cyber Murders." Hmmm. It sounds very interesting to me. I also enjoy murder mysteries. I've always wanted to write about a female serial killer, but I just don't know enough about what forensics to pull it off.

Please do not purchase "The Laptop." It's not the kind of book that would be good for you to read. It contains outrageously horrendous graphic details about abysmal deeds that are too objectionable to even think about. It should be banned in Boston and everywhere else. I grieve that I wrote such a obscenely hideous and unspeakably appalling tale of evil, malevolent, malicious and iniquitous deeds carried out by a computer. I beg of you, do not buy this book. Dreadful things have already happened to those that have read the malicious tale.
Sincerely, Daniel |
|
|
PS: you can write that book about a female serial killer. I know you can. Just do it and you'll be glad you did. You have the intellect, tallent and ability to write that book. Don't put it off any longer.

I do not believe, in banning books, regardless of the content. Thanks for the advice though. |
|
Well, thanks for the words of encouragement, but how could you possibly know if I'm intelligent and/or talented???????? You are sweet. |
|
|
If that laptop book is so bad, then why did you write it? you say: It should be banned in Boston and everywhere else. I guess from what you say, You are aware of what kind of damage this book might do to an unstable mind?? Im going to get a copy of laptop and i will see you @(I'll be at the Hastings Book Store in Muscogee on Saturday, May 10th, from 1 'til 5 pm to sell and sign three of my books) If that book is that bad, that you would make statements in public forum advising costomers not to buy it, you may want to pull kit from the market before i get a copy. Catch my drift??

|
Oh i get it, your not the writer, your just someone talking shit. well i will be there to get the book signed. I want to meet the person that spoke his true mind in the pages of a book.
|
|
John, sometimes you are so "non compos mentis". Ignore him, Daniel. Don't even respond. |
|
All kinds of things can affect an unstable mind, but ultimately, such things cannot be blamed for the actions of others. Look at our media. Violent video games, violent television shows, violent movies, violent books, porn magazines, etc. When I was a child, we watched violent cartoons, but I can't see that it had much affect on us. We were able to understand reality from fiction. |

John and Ok-Sweetheart;
Let me appeal to your sensitivities and please be reasonable about this. Sometimes we do things in life that we deeply regret. "The Laptop," is one of those things for me. I'm currently doing a story about why people shouldn't buy "The Laptop." There's a lot more to it than just the contents of the story about the computer. If you’ll just delay until this summer, then you can read the real history of the book and what’s happened to those that have purchased it, and you’ll understand why I’m beseeching you not to buy “The Laptop.” Believe me, I’ve been through a lot in my long lifetime; Vietnam, the riggers of raising children, job and locality changes, and now death threats. When I tell you not to buy this book, I mean it. Unfortunately, I can’t cancel my contract with the publisher, or I would and get the book off the market and burn every copy I can get my hands on. But I’m stuck with it and have to live with the consequences that have been brought on by people buying the evil tale. I have to include it when I market my other works, just so people will know I’m not just a fly-by-night author, but when I go to a book signing, I never let people buy the story. Wait for the truth about the book before you decide. Both of us will be glad you did. Don't make the mistake of your lifetime. |

Well i have a few years under my belt in nam also with the 42nd LZ English. The book cant be as bad as it was there, but i can see how people that have never achived the mind set you and i have could be swayed to think the wrong things. John, I'm sorry. I'll pay you what you are paying for the book plus 10% if you will not read it. I care about people and I don't want to see anything bad happen to you.
