Do you think this will happen by 2011-2012? I think back to my childhood, where we were expected to be flying vehicles, instead of driving them, by the year 2000!

No telling. But 2012 is a year that from what I have read about is something we all should be keeping up on with NASA.

Collapsing world economy says this thing will not get off ground... The amount of energy being wasted for no good while the planet is already boiling in carbon emissions says I hope not.

When they made plans for this, it was a world of infinite $$$ which I doubt we'll see again until fusion energy becomes productive. In the meantime something's gonna have to give, I suspect the pointless projects like this one are first to go.

Finally... When you think of it, it's like your first overseas flight, which was exciting for the first fifteen minutes. Then it became boring. I suppose the space flight will be much like that except that the passengers will have much less room to move about.

Oak Grove... I would have thought these doomsday sites would be out of business. Remember 12/31/1999? All they do is to steal the focus from the real issues, such as climate change, which may not be quite as instantaneously theatrical but just as bad.

When you think of it, all wealth that is not organic is virtual. No matter how much of this virtual wealth we create, it does not change the fact that the planet can feed only those it can feed. Of this follows that when the climate change hits the earth for real, the first sign will be a MASSIVE collapse of all economies. People have this vague sense that some yet not thought of future knowledge and wealth will make everything good again. Well, as I said, I believe that this miracle-performing wealth will disappear the moment we need it most.

Good thing we have the stockpiles of weapons to fight over whatever fertile soil is left ;)

Sorry to be the one to break this but the money spent on the Apocalypse Preparedness Kit you bought over the internet is not going to help you.

ONLY thing that will help you is to IMMEDIATELY focus on what is important and act NOW to protect the food source. The land, the sea, the climate.

To put a stop on idiot projects like this one would be a start.

Some of what you say I agree with. I can honestly say that I have never bought my survival kit.. lol. Yes, I remember when it all was suppose to happen when 2000 rolled over. But from my understanding, that attempted chaos was to come from "man-made" dilemmas. From what I have been reading about 2012 is that IF anything were to happen, it is from space, with the planets and the sun.. ect ect (solar storm I think). I am not saying it IS going to happen, but if NASA are speaking of potential "things" not necessarily the world "ending," I think it is atleast worth keeping an eye on is all. Whats crazy to me, there are people around that are concerned, but are afraid to comment or ask questions because there are so many that want to judge or hush them up just for being curious. Not saying that is what you or anyone is doing, just saying that it is hard for people to talk or ask about it. I know no one knows what will happen till that time gets here, but I can say that it is something that I think about every so often.... lol

Ok, I could understand if we had to be taken to live on a space station if earth was going to have live go extinct for whatever reason. But, as a tourist attraction, with carbon levels already being an issue without tourist trips to space, I don't think it's something that's important right now. However, I have and idea.

While reading this I thought of something. Stuff floats in space all the time right? If we are able to go into space, and now working on a way to go into space with no reason other than site seeing tourists, why not send disposable cargo containers or something.

If the space tour thing happens, could they not also have a container that's disposable, they could slowly take the trash out to space and off earth! Just an idea, but if they could figure out how to do something like that, wouldn't it help the carbon levels on earth?

I know they wouldn't be able to do a big dent real quick, but would there be any bad effects to doing something like that?

Another thing... Just 'saying' of course.. lol.. What about the Mayan Calendar? I mean it has been pretty accurate from what I have read in our past. Also, on the date mentioned, this calendar ends on this date, and some websites give a "time" (ours is like 4 or 5 in the morning). Coinsidence? Maybe, but there are alot of NON-man points portrayed about this year. There are alot of questions myself that I have, but it has gotten to where people shun away the curious people. I asked a preacher, and I never got an actual answer. I was told: "as long as you believe, then you have nothing to worry about." I never would ponder in this like this if I didnt have kids.. Well, not to be an idiot or anything, but I believe, and still got no answers on what I was asking (science-wise). I am not questioning religion or beliefs by any means. But where can someone go to ask the "Questions"? Ive tried before on here to ask, and people always refer to the bible, and no answers or opinions relating to the "subject at hand." I know how to face or deal with this religion wise, but on a scientific level, no one wants to talk about this. Maybe it is me, or the people I have tried relying on in the past for a possible answer. Who knows? But, I feel something will happen on this date. Whether it be, no technology for about 6 months, or maybe the "end." No one knows, but curiosity has taken some effort on me. I hope no one gets on here and 'bashes' me for asking... But, what can a curious person do? Read the bible? That is not satisfactory for me at this moment because I am curious about the "science" area of it all.... I dont know, maybe one day someone will answer a question or two... lol.. Either way, there are people that wonder about the "what-ifs" and I am one of them... lol.. I wouldnt be so "into" the wanting to know if certain people in history didnt make assumptions.(Einstein and Nostradamus) Anyway... Thanks for reading my moment... lol

sorry so long..:-)

I'm not sure, but seems like I heard something before about the Mayan calender ends on that year because of some kind of calender type switch.

Trash in space is more dangerous than it is here (it ends up orbiting the eath at 50000mph, every little piece of it becomes a a potentially destroying weapon when it strikes against a satelite or space shuttle.)

The waste prioduced on earth to send one pound of trash to space would be hundreds of pounds of trash.

To produce energy it takes to send trash to space would lead to massive increase of greenhouse gases.

----

Oak Grove,
I don't buy the drama on the site. There is, though, a real danger from space which is growing:

As the solar system orbits the galaxy, it wobbles a little. The galaxy is a disk, our solar system is sometimes above the disk, sometimes below. It is kind of drawing a sinus curve as it goes around. We pass the 'zero level' wich is equal to the disk, once every ca 100 million years.

As we pass through the disk, the gravity of the galaxy lined up with our solarsystem creates pressure on the kuyper belt (the mass of asteroids just outside the furthest planets.) Following this, there will be many, many new asteroids heading toward the center of the system. we passed the zero level a few millions of years ago, the asteroids should be here any time now. Not to say one WILL hit the earth, but the probablility will increase a tad every year for a few millions of years to come.

DON'T freak out. We are talking about millions of years here;)

Sorry for mistakes, had about 45 seconds to type this, Must go.

Hmm, but what if they had a way once in space to idk send it towards Mars or something, it's used to being hit by stuff lol. If they come up with "space tours" then they would already be going into space, so it would be like 2 things in one, a space tour as well as sending trash to Mars. lol

But, if Mars ever became livable, we might would have a lot of trash to pick up. Plus the germs and organisms might evolve eventually into more life form, that would be weird!

Thanks for responding and not ragging me.. lol. But the questions I have not only deal with the actual date but from NASA put on their site. I know our sun has been "quiet" for some time.(SUNSPOTS) But who is to say that when it 'wakes' up... could we be the one in line for the reprocussion**(sp)? I try not to 'freak' out, but when it comes to something affecting our world and our possible lifestyle... I get concerned. I know I cannot change nothing as an individual, But, has anyone ever noticed that almost, and I repeat, ALMOST every time that we send something into space... there is usually an environmental catastrophe to follow. Examples, whish I could be wrong, are the Tsunami, and Katrina... Some earthquakes... I mean, my mom brought it to my attention. Maybe, with the new "tourist" flights they are predicting, well.. they just may "screw" us all. When there is a Sonic Boom.. Why do we rarely hear it. I am from Florida, and have seen many shuttles go up, and remember one rather famous one Blowing up in the 80s. Just seems human are tracking on a terrain that maybe we shouldnt. I know the last solar storm was back in 1953 I think. That one was at like 20%.. Knocked a country out of power for a short time. The one expected in 2011 is supposed to be 50% worse. As in, Only from what I read, should knock out all technology and pull satellites in to crash to the earth. They state it is the "END OF THE" or the end as WE know it. All GPS, cell phones, internet, ect ect... has the potential to dissapate**(sp).. I think there are alot of things going on that we may never hear or read about. I am only worried about the solar storm that we are "expecting" and there are talks of the Sun flipping upside down. I know the internet can do more harm than good when you have someone reading things that they may not understand. But there is a "scientist" with the last name of Hathaway that has been covering and monitoring all the upcoming events. I want to believe this person... But whos to say that they arent doing their statements for, maybe 'publicity?' I dont know.. But I am still curious on the whereabouts of our life.. world.. existense**(sp)... I hope I do not sound crazy, I want to consider myself Informed if the incident were to happen.. lol
