It is interesting that Rudd is running around the Pacific throwing extra aid around in the cause of "better relations" yet his razor gang is in top gear back home slashing the battlers few financial priveleges. Makes you wonder what a socialist government really is.

I think we'll see the leis and the dancing girls laid on thick everywhere, everything will be warm and fuzzy and all smiles, there will be some token bags of money thrown into the odd little problem here and there with lots of publicity and it will all make wonderful news for the Rudd and Sikua circus.

Then the dust will settle, Rudd will go home, the bags of money will disappear into the existing corrupt structure, RAMSI will get its budget cut and we'll all take three steps backward.

And to add to this, we'll have to put up with the twisted media stories telling us how great this all has been for everybody. Meanwhile, overseas logging companies will continue to strip Solomon forests illegally and unabated, offshore fishing fleet will roam around the archipelage unchallenged, with their location I.D.s switched off, illegally harvesting far beyond their quotas and local ministers will sit back, wondering what to do next.

You've turned out to be a disappointment back home Kevin, don't let these people down.

Is ANYONE in the solomon islands responsible for the solomon islands, or is the pointing finger attitude so entrenched.

Kavachi, what do you make out the following story?

http://www.abc.net.au/ra/programguide/stories...

It looks to me like Aus is going to work on economic development but will do it alone. I think the job that needs to be done is too big for Aus and that even Aus needs international institution assistance, such as from the UN, WB, IMF, G8.

Australia currently does not support Barney Banana. His undemocratic take-over of Figi is not good for the country's long-term economic structure. We are still involved due to threats of international crime syndicates establishing there plus there is a large population of ex-pats living and working there we have to be concerned about.

Barney Banana may have military control of the place but doesn't have financial control. Pretty soon he will run out of money then anarchy will occur and this worries Australia who will probably have to lead the charge to clean the mess up.

Every time Australia does something pro-active offshore, regardless of the fact it is assessed as being for the good of all, we are condemned as meddling or interfering. I think, somehow, we need a well-developed propaganda machine to get the truth and some sense into these people. Throwing money just doesn't work. It must be rigidly controlled by us, not local pollies. The whole issue of aid should be looked at at an international level.

And what will fiji need to rebuild itself, MONEY. So the money given in aid is needed its just a pity its usually misused and squandered. When you give money to aid rebuilding BUT control where and how its spent, your considered to be manipulating the governance of that country, NOTHING is black and white UNFORTUNATLY.
