On My Mind: Israel's Jewish visitors

Full story: Jerusalem Post

That a majority of American Jews have never been to Israel, and that those who have are, for the most part, infrequent visitors, is an old and sad story.

What's sad about that? Because their Religion is Jewish doesn't make them beholding to the Jewish State anymore more then the Majority of Catholics who haven't visited the Vatican makes them beholding to The Holy See as a destination frequently or in frequently. Ultimately they are Americans and that is where their loyalties do and should ly no matter their Religion or ethnicity.

On the other hand, Catholics don't think about Rome as being their 'homeland'.

The Jewish faith proclaims every year on Passover,'next year in Jerusalem'.

After the Diaspora (Jewish exile after being conquored by Babylon), many longed to someday RETURN to Israel.

Now that they have their 'homeland' back, many don't care to go there to live, let alone travel for a visit.

Seems when Israel didn't exist, it was SO IMPORTANT to have their 'homeland', but now that the State of Israel has come into being a great apathy has replaced the desire to go home.

Good point Eleanor. It's the old story of wanting what you cannot have until you get it. The point is that " Next year in Jerusalem" was a hope for a home and a place of security which Israel still can't deliver on and Countries like The U S have provided beyound most Jews expectations. In a Sense we are The New Jerusalem!

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Scorpio

It's a frustrating and rather disappointing day because you have to cope with delays and setbacks to your plans. A travel arrangement may have to be postponed or there could be a hitch about something connected with education. You're also feeling subdued and tired, and you're longing to spend some time on your own although this may not be possible. Don't worry, this difficult mood will soon blow over.
