What the west in particular fears is that The Chinese Way is more effective. For the past 500 years, other countries/societies had to become like western or fail. They now fear that they will have to become like Chinese or fail. The foundations of thought and attitude, the assumptions upon which their civilization is built, will have to be thrown on the garbage heap of history, de-valued, that the world will march to the tune of The Chinese Way. It is the fear that cannot be spoken. When it is spoken, it will already be a fact

It is the fear that cannot be spoken. When it is spoken, it will already be a fact From the beginning of History of Mankind, civilization has come back and forth from the East to the West and vice versa. Now we are not able to specify our present civilization's origin. It is somewhat a mixed civilization. For instance present day Chinese wear Western style suits most of the time. There are plenty of Chinese food restaurants in the West. The present Western Pharmacy owed to China's medicine, and Accupuncture has been adopted by the West. Even now we are writing on a piece of paper which is a Chinese invention in the second century AD by Tsai Lun. Computer was originated from Chinese Abacus system. On the other hand the Chinese learnt modern technologies from the West, as well as arranging its modern style army. So, in my opinion using somebody's way is common and agreeable as long as it is voluntary and not through violence. People learning from each other for progress is good.

All one needs to be is flexible and adaptable and open-minded. I think the spread of the Chinese Way will be beneficial. However the vast majority of westerners don't see it this way. Instead they fear it as a threat to their traditional way of doing things

However, I am a person from an Eastern culture, who has spent many years in the West, and now is working and living again in the East. From your observations, I have the following opinion. If you are Western, you're trying to hard to be open-minded, to the point of overlooking the grave short comings in the Chinese political and social mindset. Perhaps you're just trying to be trendy or perhaps appear to be profound and philosophical as a modern mind. If you're a Chinese, then I think you're suffering from a case of extreme national and cultural pride.

What is a Japanese Like you doing in Thailand! Posting anti-Chinese propaganda! Understandable! since militant expansionist Japanese like you started your expansionist campaign in China in 1910! Looks like you are reliving your Japanese Imperialist past! You must be very proud of how you belittle the white prisoner of war at the Bridge on the River Kwai!

Bob Burns wrote: <quoted text>Can you tell me what, in your opinion, are these "grave short comings in the Chinese political and social mindset"? 1) order and grandeur at any cost, e.g. Beijing Olympics, denial of citizens' rights to stage protests in supposed designated protest areas, sweeping urgent issues under the rug just to put on a good face for the world. 2) military grandeur as the ultimate goal of a country that cannot bear with humiliation of defeats in the past. Desire to regain past glory motivates it to break standards of decency to achieve its goals, e.g. supporting and dealing with rogue and authoritarian governments despised by the world. 3) desire for economic sufficiency for its own citizenry impels it to ignore international laws and standards in order to garner enough resources to feed its own population, e.g. expansionist actions in the South China Sea, claiming 80% of the South China sea as its "historic sea" - an action that has no precedence in maritime history. 4) China is probably the only country in the entire world that has engaged in war with all of its neighbors and claim that it has done so in "self-defense". 5) At the same time that it laments Japanese atrocity upon Chinese in the past, China is one of the biggest imperialists around. With 5,000 years of history. There are lots of stories to tell. Chinese on this forum and other forums keep saying that China is just trying to rise up from the humiliation that it suffered, that it just wants to regain what once belonged to it, that it just wants to be respected. I tell you, there is nothing more dangerous and alarming that a big guy who is beaten down and is now setting out to take revenge. He's willing to do anything to get what he wants. And that's what exactly China is doing - anything.

By the time the tide turns when people need to follow the Chinese way at least there will be a western base for them to adapt with. But its always funny to see the Western people either loving or getting shocked at things like KTV sessions when doing business. And besides in most foreign countries there's a China town. So expect to see Expat town in every province (probably there is already)! Yep a littl e town to feel like home. But i definetely see a lot of Japanese and Korean areas. I just hope for China to hurry up and improve their media and overtake America's dominant power in it. Can China ever beat Hollywood?
