Oakland has some nice areas, but even the hills suffer the "spillover" from the ghetto. Multi million dollar homeowners find crackheads stealing stereo equipment and breaking into their cars. People living in moderately priced areas get carjacked and robbed every day, just driving through Oakland. It's a mess of a city, with a mess of a county court and city council. Too many criminals, and resources are spent "helping" and not on justice.
Anyway, it's nice to have someone agree with me for a change!:)
Its spreading out to EVERYWHERE , and such a pity. At least you can head east for a cuple hours and be in the Sierra's..........but ..oh yeah...the last time I came out for two weeks, even Yosemite was experiencing a "Gang turf war" at the Camp Curry main visitor area so we drove back towards Hetc Hetchy lake and camped in a remote campsite , drove back into the valley floor in the daytime to show the kids the falls etc.......was actually unnerving to see the thug types all over the place and hear (of all things ) THUMP music in that beautifull park.

It's a sad culture of violence and crime...and they are procreating faster than rabbits while sane people like my husband and I have one kid.

Watch out for him....I have been so protective its cost me a fortune over the past 10 years (I have three) Kept them fully, VERY fully involved with all sorts of school related sports , activities and such.........and fortunately, kept them away from most of the crap, BUT....taught them jow to avoid it, the simplest rule always being "If your not "out there" they wont run into you, or you into them.......... two of my H/S team mates were beaten, knifed and one blinded by punks who were in a van at a grocery store . They were goofing off ( my buddies) and pushing one inside a shopping cart on the way to their car, when they got into the car the scums exited the van and began harrassing them, They were big guys (my buddies) but proved no match for the 6 who pounced them. I learned that day we heard the news that no one is really safe anymore.

Im so sorry that happened to your friends. Such senseless violence, so sad.

I've been called a "paranoid mommy" more than a few times since my son was born. Dad is Oakland PD, and has seen more about violent crime than anybody should. So I hope we'll all be okay. But constant awareness is key. I keep some OC spray with me anytime I think I could possibly need it. DH has the advantage of being able to legally carry a concealed weapon. But in any case, you never know when or where something could happen.

You're sweet.
Would it be weird of me to print that out for my own future reference? I think it would, but I might do that anyways.:)
Oh, please do!

That would be the proper thing to do.

That's possibly one of the funniest things I've heard.

Those things might even be getting made in your neighbor's back yard.
