Lapthornes devastated on news of Britt's death

I am so saddened by the finding of the death of an Australian traveller presumable alone in defense and so far from home. Her poor devastated family trying to find answers in a language not native to them, from a culture unlike our own, and a government ungoverend like our own!!
I cannot stand suggestions a seemingly innocent backpacker albeit an Aussie girl just wanting to "spread her wings" and "expand her horizons" by travelling through foreign countries - like all of us whom have been lucky enough to share the same experience before or aspire to the backpacking adventure dream, that she had it coming to her??!!
Firstly I cannot fathom such indiscrimanat aloofness to a life - a human life, cut so short..and such a heious crime at sorts??!!!!
This could happen to anybody, anywhere and unfortunately because it has happened in a country ulike our own, answers, investigations, forensic work, police bodies, government officials cannot and will not always seem or be what they are..
If we briefly look into how the Government body is personed we will find that 9 out of 10 officials are from one of the three main families that make up the Mafia..and that small percentage that aren't directly involved with the Mafia are still related within the sector.
One of the three main operations the Mafia is invloved in is HUMAN TRAFFICKING...The statistics into kidnapping, drugging, forced prostitution, and innevitabley a fate worse than death as overwhelmingly staggering.
We have to ask ourselves?...rather than invite misconception, like so many people before us, Britt's drink was more than likely spiked?...If you have ever seen a friend or stranger under the effects of an illegal drugging it is heartbreakingly deplorable what and how the drug works on alienating your brain and all good judgement that you once had to complete and utter abandonment of character and perception.
Considering Britt's drink may have been spiked and all commonsense is clouded, Britt would have been the prey and the predators have seized their opportunity...
Imagine this to be our sister, friend, daughter, stranger, the unimagineable astrocities are pure evil.
Was Britt simply a sacrifical lamb to demonstrate what happens to women plucked from life, and finding themselves in the UNDERWORLD and not co operating with their captors??
I don't know if we will ever know the truth, and perhaps for our uncorrupted minds it's best we don't know the truth, for if this is an UNDERWORLD MURDER we never will know the truth..and perhaps the perputrators never brought to justice...
Remember Night clubs in Croatia and not just singling out Croatia...all through out the Balkans..(even our home grown St Kilda!!) are forced to pay the mafia (and who runs the Mafia??...or whom is in government?..) fees to ensure their premises aren't targetted by the Mafia...and countless other "under the table" conducts.
If "witnesses" aren't co operating with investigations or aren't saying what you may like to hear, and as offended as you may be by testaments of Britt's last hours, how can we be sure what we are hearing IS THE TRUTH?? With a gun to my head, my family's??...I doubt even the best of us could speak the truth?? REMEMBER this is a country unlike our own. And I'm not saying this in re. to scenery, peoples, culture, it is all very beautiful and yes I have been through Croatia..this is about POLITICS and unfortunately an unsuspecting Aussie tourist was plucked from life and thrown (like a piece of meat!!) into the Adriatic Sea...into oblivion..
JUST 6DAYS AGO (yes Monday gone!!)a prominent Zagrebian lawyer's daughter was assinated with two bullets to the head IN BROAD DAYLIGHT...what and who knows the WHYS and HOWS...but this is politics..MAFIA politics..and GOD REST poor Britt's soul, may the perputrators burn in HELL.

6 croatians have been murdered since Britt went missing and the police have done nothing to solve these crimes but they have no problem sending kids to jail for 3 years over a gram of marihuana. Are these laws made to protect the Mafia? are you aware of the fact that people get 3 years jail for murder in Croatia? That criminals are let out of jail during the weekends? I wonder if they catch the bastard that killed her will he get a 3 year jail sentence? and will he be let out of jail during the weekends?

...what and who knows the WHYS and HOWS...but this is politics..MAFIA politics..and GOD REST poor..

I too am saddened by the loss of this beautiful young woman. It is a horrible tragedy, and one that will haunt her parents forever.
If someone is responsible for her death, then I would want to see them rot in hell.
The authorities in Croatia most certainly do have their deficiencies and probably a level of corruption, with remnants from its past communist dictatorship, where you appear to know more than most.
Has there been any evidence that there was foul play? Admittedly, I believe it is the most likely cause of Britt’s death, but I for one am not prepared to jump to conclusions, with the typical Australian attitude toward non Anglo peoples as being either incompetent or corrupt.
In Australia five of the seven backpacker murders may have been prevented if the authorities had acted on information provided to them by witnesses.
I personally know people that lost a child to the sick brutal murders perpetrated by a group allegedly with close ties with officialdom in this state, the so-called protectors of our children and society. Where were the fucking authorities??????

although we don't agree at all times, i am happy to say that yes, the sick comments ARE in the minority (DON'T THINK I COULD HANDLE ANYMORE SHITE!!) for a woman like myself..get's too personal, emotive..but i do enjoy reading your topix...there are just a few here who have something DECENT and EDUCATED to say and i respect that. peace. and god rest britt's soul...

It happens in our own backyard.Remember Anita Cobby-and I have not read any comments about white anglo trash women.How do you know she is not celtic, finnish or hungarian by descent.Most of the whites in Northern and central

Yes, I've read a lot of abusive hate mail from the Balkans chastising our western women for being whores and "they" as in Britt deserved what they got...Really sad, no human should write that kind of sh*te...I refused to write back to those particular blogs as they were extremely abusive and spreading a lot of hatred, anger etc...I wrote my original piece in the beginning, I guess in honour of a girl's last living memory, and to remind ourselves that we cant' judge, especially when none of us I am sure were even with Britt the night she disappeared...and what were the single moments that happened that evening that lead to her inevitable death, and which moments those that were there that night, could have perhaps rewinded and lead a different outcome? It will happen again, any country any day. Just be nice to know, what is that single infinite moment in time that we could do different to not find ourselves 6feet under??..

i watched for a week hoping for her and her parents sake.
Only to find out she had been killed brutally.
I am totally disgusted.
I hopped out of the shower to watch the news to only find out that some disgusting human being had taken her life.
I cried and had night mares.

hi-That is not the point they wanted to make-She was indulging in high risk behaviour.Many women are assaulted or end up in undesirable situations when pissed in this country.I was in Serbia for weeks and never went to nightclubs and got pissed because I know what could of happened to me if I lost control of my behaviour and senses-Hard lessons learnt in Germany.Take care....
