This is ridiculous. How much money are we going to spend, when it is already the most highly overfunded disease. People
are dying at far higher rates from other diseases because militant activists intimidate legislators into poring money into this bottomless pit. For the most part these people are killing themselves because of reckless, irresponsible behavior. I would rather see billions more spent on cancer research. Stop sticking needles in yourself to get high and having risky sex when you've been told it will kill you for the past 20 years. A simple, inexpensive solution, but these clowns will never let it happen.

Here's a new idea -

DON'T HAVE UNSAFE SEX!!!!

There are REAL health issues that need attention/funding. Diseases that affect innocent people who have done nothing to deserve it.

YOU CAN'T CURE STUPIDITY!!!

Go visit Connecticut Children's Medical Center and tell me if it is more important to waste money on people who can't keep their pants zipped or to help these kids who are innocent victims of much less funded or politically unpopular diseases. These Democrats/liberals who want to keep throwing money away on this preventable disease are really pathetic.

"Globally, underserved communities are being ravaged by this disease, and the effects on women have been particularly devastating,"------Great, another reason to blow our tax dollars on deadbeats.. How about they stop using injectable drugs, how about they use protection or even this, refrain from multiple partners! No... liberals would rather tax us and spend it on feel good programs like the "needle exchange" Big tax dollar solutions... NICE!

The outbreak of HIV/AIDS is directly related to the near elimination of morality in the U.S.

If sex had remained a loving act and not evolved into a recreational sport, how many more people would be still with us?

If drug users were punished and not coddled, how many of them would still be with us?

HIV infections rampant amongst Blacks? No surprise here; this is the result of not having a two parent household and giving adolescents proper role models and guidance.

The solution?

Go cold turkey for a generation in terms of support for welfare mothers. This cycle must be broken before it takes down the U.S.

I agree ct yankee. Postings on this blog, no matter the subject, are, for the most part, ugly and hurtful.

These folks are getting meaner by the minute. America deserves better from her citizens.

Thanks for your posting.

Basically, this article says blacks and latinos are sharing needles while doing their drugs and getting AIDS. There is already an effective prevention program in place to stop this from happening - it's called the law. Tina may not know this, but there are laws which forbid the use of drugs, which are injected through teh use of needles, which are ahared by blacks and hispanics and which leads to the spread of AIDS. Why doesn't Tina and the others call for stricter enforcement of our laws and penalizing those who use drugs with meaningful sentences in jail. No no no, that would be unfair - after all we are talking about blacks and hispanics. No, instead let's trash whites by saying AIDS isn't just isn't in the white community. Um, I knew that before. Want to stop sharing needles - punish drug use. Also, can't blacks and latinos afford condoms - they're cheaper than ipods and Air Jordans, and you see posters for safe sex. This article is all about another whining plea for money being spent to convince a bunch of savages to stop their unhealthy ways. Such initiatives havne't worked before, and they won't work now. The beasts who share the needles won't change their ways no matter how colorful you make the posters and the fliers. How about rounding up people who share needles and throwing them into jail. At least they wouldn't be infecting others who don't have AIDS. I wonder what Obama would do?

It is about behavior modification.

The strengthening of the institution of marriage. You see the fragmentation of the African Amercian family by divorce, adultery, fatherlessness which has led to the mire they are in.

Encourage the responsibility of marriage, the noble idea of men supporting their families by labor, the need and importance of a father and mother in the home.

Simple ideas that have proven their truth in human history.

I realize there are those who would like to experiment and give junior a father and a father in a long term committed relationship, but that is not the answer. If it works don't fix it.

The WASPs should take note of the fall of the African American family and work to reverse the trend for them and us.(I am a WASP)

The most effective AIDS prevention program would be international internment camps.

Yep, Americans are getting sick of paying for ireasponsable people. Its about time we ask for accountability! The Silent Majority is starting to speak,Whats wrong with that? Aids has been known about since the early 80s,we spent millions trying to educate people how to avoid getting aids for over two decades - Aids is nothing new,Every kid has been informed about it for 2 decades,You think anyone learned yet? Lets get real here.

OK, I think I'm over it...that was hilarious!
You're completely deluded if you think that sex has been a loving act, or that marriage has always been between 2 loving people.
Just curious -- how much is gas in your universe?

So yesterday The Courant posts and forced down our throat - a front page liberal gay agenda... then today they figure out how to stop AIDS?
It's the gay lifestyle that created this problem to the proportions it's at now...
The initial media influence, combined with corporations consistently portraying Latino and African American's in a stereotypical way in movies, the media and on TV is what's continuing this problem.
Sounds like this article is just a free plug for The Courant reporters book.
Turn on any corporate owned radio station who's target is urban/inner city/minority listeners - and you will find them promoting promiscuity, having 5 baby mamas, reckless sex, etc. It's the artificial culture created by the media/movie/music outlets in this country that is the influence for the self destructive behavior that's causing these problems with STD's/AIDS.
I think it's really scary that one in 16 people in DC, and one in 7 black men in Harlem are positive.
I think the problem lies in people not being smart enough with this subject and not caring. We're seeing the same thing in Harlem and the inner city as we are seeing in Africa. Part social stupidity and ignorance - and part media influence.
And one more question - why the heck are condoms so expensive? I mean I guess they are cheaper than AIDS drugs or the cost of raising a child... but still.
Actually, HIV/AIDS began in Africa most likely in the 1950s and worldwide, it's the heterosexuals (non-gay) people who are the cause of the spread of the epidemic. We're seeing that happening here in the US as well. Part of the problem related to HIV prevention is that we don't teach comprehensive sex education in the schools. Teashing kids to just say no or giving them a one day, one time unit on reproduction isn't prevention. KIds need an ongoing message about this. In the state of CT alone 13 - 24 year olds account for 70% of the the chalmydia alone! That says that kids are NOT gettting the information they need to protect themselves. Newly reported HIV/AIDS cases in the state among people 29 and under account for 13% of the cases which means most of those people were infected as teens. Sexually active teens and young people don't routinely get tested for HIV because of these types of opinions -- that it's only a "gay" disease oronly happens to injecting drug users. People need to get the real facts and not stay mired in myths and misconceptions of homophobia and AIDS-phobia.

True - and liberal media pushing the gay agenda down our throats isn't helping.
Look at the way a majority of teens and 20 somethings behave. It IS all about banging random girls, etc. It's much worse in the Latino/African American communities.
And it is the Zionist owned media and music industries that are pumping this behavior to our youth and conditioning us to accept it as the "social norm".
You're all over the place - is it homosexuals or heterosexuals that are the problem?

Don't share IV needles (let alone use the substances contained there-in. Don't participate in unprotected sex. Don't expose self to bodily fluids containing white blood cells.

Education done.

Who doesn't really know this by now?
