Great turnout this morning for the Grand Opening - there were well over 100 people waiting when store manager Paul Bracker opened the doors about 7:55am. The size of the crowd grew steadily while I was there, but everyone on the staff was tripping over themselves to be helpful. It's going to be a great addition to downtown - props to Paul and his entire crew on a great opening!

I wish I could move downtown. Park the car and walk/bike everywhere. I hate doing my yard work...which I have to do some today. Dang it!

I live downtown (Thorton Park) in a very nice house and I still have to do yard work. BTW, I paid $26 thousand for it in 1974. My payments were $264.00 per month. The KEY WORD being WERE. I love my brick streets and oak trees. I pay around $800.00 per year in taxes also. Ha Ha, early bird gets the worm but in this case it was the golden egg.
Have you checked your rat traps lately?

ive lived downtown for 6 years now and all i can say is FINALLY we have a grocery store with grocery store prices within walking distance to my apt. and for everyone #$%^@ing about the new publix downtown....dont go there!!! i havent been there yet but my wife and neighbor say its awesome to have. living downtown has its ups and downs like any other neighborhood, but for those of us who choose to live here, love it. every one of my friends are jealous of me because i can walk to anywhere i want to go. yes it is expensive but you get what you pay for.

I went today and was very impressed. There is a store with a similiar layout in Clearwater near the Howard Franklin Bridge. I live in Colonialtown and there is a Publix closer to me, but if the mood strikes me I might visit this one. The parking was extremely easy to get into and out of. The only bad thing is the elevator is very slow. Great job though!

Ok I'll continue to walk through Thornton Park at night and feel safe. Why didn't you include the statistics from the Parramore zip code which is 32805? The zip code for Baldwin Park is 32814. Why don't you also include some of the crime statistics for areas around Baldwin Park. There are some nasty areas surrounding that part of town and I haven't heard of the Baldwin Park Publix getting held up. You failed to mention anything about the Publix blocks away at Colonial and Shine which hasn't been robbed. I think you should look at the Publix stores in Pine Hills if you are concerned about one being robbed. The clientele of the Publix on Lake Eola will be totally different from the ones west of I-4. I live in the area and I think I have a good feel for it. I have also lived here my entire life so I think I know the area. Downtown is not crime free but it isn't the high crime ghetto you are trying to portray it as. That Publix has a much lower chance of being held up than most others. In fact the thugs are holding up suburban grocery stores where it would be least expected.
Baldwin Park is Thorton Park... just newer and with less crime. I can walk to Publix in Baldwin. I wasn't trying to imply that the downtown Publix would get robbed, I was simply pointing ou tthat there is more crime in that area than most people are aware of... or are willing to admit.

I know that 32814 is Baldwin park, thats why I listed the crime rate for the last thrity days. 32805 is significantly higher... you can look yourself.

Dude, do you have downtown envy or something? I live downtown NEXT to this Publix location the last 3 years, and I havent heard or seen of any major crimes in this area.
To include Parramore with Thornton Park is like including Windermere with Winter Garden.
Just because YOU haven't heard or seen crime with your own eyes doesn't mean it's not happening. Look at the crime map... and why would crime from WG spill over into Winderemere?

If you are worried about crime, just go during the day. I've been there at least 10 times since it's opened and have had no problems. As a matter of fact, I am usually sharing the sidewalk with the elderly folks from the assisted living facilities nearby. Completely innocuous. I live in Solaire and it's a nice little walk for me and is a way to get exercise and enjoy Orlando's early morning weather. There is crime everywhere in Orlando, but if you're smart, you won't put yourself in the sights of those who commit it.
