Will urban grocer make many hunger to move downtown?

Dear New Downtown Publix - please be stocked up on lots of organic and Greenwise groceries and give me an excuse to never have to drive to Whole Foods again!

Congratulation and welcome, Publix. Downtown is so happy to have you! You will be getting my dollars, for sure.
Here's to a successful grand opening weekend! |

They will close the store within a year.

Hooray!
|
|
It will be interesting to see how they deal with the bums.

|
Somehow other stores in other cities manage to deal with them, I think Publix will be ok. |

Publix charges outrageously high prices. I hope they go out of business.

What an asinine piece. You think people will move to downtown due to a publix opening there? With more vacancies than tenants the odds are against publix being profitable enough to warrant keeping the store open. Supermarkets do not bring tenants, employers do. Orlando does not have the employers to support the housing, downtown or otherwise.

I'm happy to have the store since I live nearby. I think it will do a lot of business. But I think the condos will continue to 'suffer'. It doesn't matter what you put nearby if people can't afford the condos. I looked at ones just a few months ago (just a block or 2 away)that still wanted over 400k for a small 2/2.

Thank you. The realtor said this was "infrastructure." That's a joke - it's a store. You create employment and demand generators and then the tenants, residents and buyers will come. You don't start with 25 condo projects - you end with the condos when there is dufficient demad for them.

Hmm, then why has all the housing been built in places like Minneola and Deltona? Those places have lots of jobs? I seem to remember there are these big buildings downtown, maybe there are some jobs there. Who knows. |

or should i say sufficient demand.

This will be a nice addition and I think the supermarket chain will see much success in this move.

Congratulations on the idiotic headline! "Will urban grocer make many hunger to move downtown?" I guess all the adult writers were writing Caylee Anthony stories (enough already!) You're all morbid wackos to make the the front page story for 2 months straight.

It is a sign of our times that there has to always be some who live in a state of depression, gray, hopeless, cynical, sarcastic, pessimistic depression - possibly caused by repeated alcohol and drug use, to the point where every new development they read about sparks negative and unnecessarily nasty remarks.
I wish PUblix the greatest of success, have always enjoyed their friendly stores, fresh produce and ever expanding selections at reasonable prices. Yes, you may save a few dollars by driving way out in the county to a Walmart but you burn gas going and coming and you are dealing basically with a faceless, "couldn't care less" box store with a long line to check out and not even a smile from the cashier. I'll gladly pay a few cents more on an item to be treated like a friend and have help ready and eager to go look for things and help me put it in my car if I need it. |

This concept had been brought up about 10 years ago with city officials, who, at time said "nobody will shop for groceries downtown". Real vision there.
In the seventies, there was an A&P grocery on Rosalind and it worked well until the property became too valuable and was sold to a high rise developer. I'm glad to see another downtown. |
|
It's called the free market or "capitalism", you idiot. If there price structure wasn't working, shoppers would go elsewhere and they would go out of business. Sadly for you, the opposite is true. Here's a thought. If you think the prices are so out of line, borrow some capital, lease a large building, get some suppliers, and open your own "bargain" grocery. BTW...there are a few large chains around that have cheap food. Go there. |

I wonder how they'll handle non-shopper parking. Seems like 140 great new spaces for downtown workers.

FAIL: D-bag Darryl said "We're finally getting the infrastructure we need downtown to make it work."
Does he know that infrastructure does not include a grocery store? Finally getting the infrastructure we need downtown to make it work would be installing sewer lines, roads... but not a Publix. Real estate sales attracts some of the best and brightest, doesn't it? |
