How about a city oriented towards the future experience towards the cosmos - it's who we could be.

That's right Long Beach is a City Offering Plenty to Experience .. Odd are, the exerpirience may not be a pleasant one. A crime ridden city .. no part of LB, with the excpetion of tiny Naples, is safe .. forget about any aquatic ocean activities, actually entering the Ocean waters, all of it is murky/filthy water .. think your are in the glamour neighborhood of Ocean Ave highrises and the Pine Ave zone restaurants .. not the case, within a few blocks of streets saturated with ex cons, gang member and drifters .. this is the norm in Long Beach, rows of rundown crime infested apartments, blighted housing, dirty streets, many gang turfs like spider webs extending in all directions.

"Urban seaside setting" indeed. Today I drove on PCH from Signal Hill over to the TI Freeway. Mile after mile of poverty. Three LBPD cop cars blocking traffic while they made a bust. If I were a visitor, I'd hop on the nearest freeway and skedaddle back to Orange County at or above the posted speed limit.

I hope you find the cure for whatever is wrong with you.

Years of neglect from LB City Hall has given San Pedro the great opportunity to attract the visitors LB visitors and vacationers could easiler win over.
San Pedro is choosing to prosper while LB elected nutjobs and union puppets who couldn't care less about the City's future. Pathetic.

We had Sea Launch. Boeing and other aerospace companies built satellite's and also components for NASA missions. Then you've got the Downey Space Center in Greater LB where they built the Apollo series of rockets.
So what kind of better future oriented ID could a city have than this? We could be not only a port city for land based products but to space. And as JFK said, "We have come too far, we have sacrificed too much, to disdain the future now".

That would be a great speech if anyone in City Hall cared to enhance our prospects rather than bike lands and plastic bag bans. We haven't had any one to cheer for Long Beach in City Hall since Beverly.

The deterioration of the City's core couldn't have happened without the firm commitment of our Leaders to devalue and diminish us all. WalMart showcases City Halls success at running our own middle class families out of the City and replacing them with thousands of illegal aliens. Very "Progressive".

Please do not knock the downtown Walmart. All one needs do is to shop in the early A.M. before the taxpayer supported Thug people get out of bed. Big Fat Cat "revolutionary Council protected" chain stores sleep in until 10:00 A.M. The downtown Walmart conveniently opens its doors at 7:00 A.M. Until Walmart arrived in the city, overtaxed Long Beachers needed to use expensive gasoline to drive to surrounding cities whenever they wanted to purchase the simplest of consumer goods. It has gotten even worse since revolutionary Council imposed its infamous Lowenthal grocery and goods bag harassment tax. That tax has resulted in overcharging local retailers and high priced unionized grocery stores losing the advantage of economy of scale. That is causing a further reduction of goods selection. Please support our downtown Walmart store. Ronald

Greetings, SPL. Hahn or Richardson, anyway we can't win. But to my point, I feel bad for those people from out of the area who think all of PCH is a resort area. They go online and book a 3 night stay on PCH between Cherry and the 110 (the poor souls don't know any better) and find out their hotel is in the ghetto/barrio.:( Hang in there, SPL.

If you're thinking about a visit to Long Beach, first read some of the Topix threads: --"Body found floating in Alamitos Bay" --"Two women robbed at gunpoint in Belmont Shore" --"Mentally handicapped woman and two children missing" For your own safety, stay in Orange County.
